What BHN do you guys consider optimal for the 10MM at about 1200fps with no gas checks?
Barrel fit is key, I know, but what is "Key" as far as hardness goes.?

I have your Alloy calculator in Excel. I have clip on WW, I have Mono type and I have pure lead pipe. With the calculator and these components I can mix up pretty much what ever I need or want as far as BHN goes, yes?

So, what BHN do you guy shoot for in you 10MM auto bullets?

Thanks
Steve

I have had good results with straight clip ww, no gc, running right around 1200fps, YMMV. Some of it will depend on the powder you choose to run that vel.

I too use straight clip on WW with a 200gr at 1250fps. I have tried water dropped as well as air cooled and found no leading in either case.

I've never found the 10mm to be any different from any other and have used range scrap, straight clip on wheel weights, Lyman #2, and my own mystery metal. I have found boolit-to-bore fit and lubricant to be important. For my two 10s (G20; Smith 1006) .001" over bore diameter works well.

Some of it will depend on the boolit design. A long boolit like a 200gr with plenty of bearing surface can run a little softer then a 135gr. I'd say give 50/50 ww/pure a try. See what it does and adjust from there depending on results.

Depends on what your looking for. Any alloy is good enough to make your gun go bang and roll beer cans at 10 paces. If your looking for real accuracy harder is allmost allways better. A semi auto bullet has to survive the round slaming out of the mag accross the ramp and into the chamber. A soft alloy can sometimes be damaged doing that and it will effect accuracy. Also most semi autos have shallow rifling that doesnt grip a soft bullet well and in the case of a glock thats doubley so because of the design of the rifling. I usually use a bullet at least 15 bhn in a semi auto gun. Either by alloying or water dropping. Water dropped ww or probably even 5050 ww/pure water dropped will get you there or a favorite of mine is 5050 ww/linotype.

I've been shooting around bhn 15 too with no troubles. I don't consider it a "hard" alloy.

I used 2% tin, 3% antimony. YMMV

Thanks Fred, I'm using Silhouette, 8gr.

I have had great success using just air cooled range scrap. I will second what others have said here that a good fitting boolit is the most important thing. The rest is just details.
