CNN says that a new $27,000 "Smart Gun" will allow inexperienced shooters to make 1,000 yard shots. Most of the work is done by the gun, but "the shooter is still in the loop."

It's nice to know that they still need someone to pull the trigger!

I have heard about "flying cars" that were going to be available in a few years for about 60 years. Still don't own one. I think this is the same thing, possible but not practical.

Ah ha. Just like them air to air missiles that were so good the F4's didn't need a cannon...right?

There is so much fail in that article.

Only a handful of people can shoot to 1,000 yds?

How can Remington buy $27,500 rifle and sell it for $5,000?

they expect 10 million in sales? If Remington buys 1,000 $27,500 rifles, isn't that more than $10,000,000?

And my favorite part:
"The idea for TrackingPoint came to McHale while he was on African safari and frustrated by his inability to shoot a gazelle at 300 yards."

^^learn to shoot....

I really liked the part at the end where they said that novices at CNN were able to hit 1,000 yard targets. But they did not say how large the targets were!

Ballistic calculator scope. Been around for a while. Doesn't do much good if the trigger finger has an idiot behind it.

Still need BR skills to read the weather, and even that, 1000 yards distance has many possible weather conditions when there are hills and valleys. Also, what happens when the weather interferes with the computer's communication with the satellite for positioning? ... felix

Now if they can just program a robot to shoot it we can quit sending our troops to die for someone else freedom.

I'm curious how the "puter" reads the 3 changes in wind direction and speed and 2 changes in barometric pressure before the bullet gets downrange?

A couple of guys, one I know, were shooting at praire dogs at 1,900 yards with speciality bolt action pistols last week in Wyoming. Said they did not hit any at that range but scared some into their holes and did hit some at 1,700 yards.
The shooter I know was previous to this outing, playing with one of the new Burris scopes with built-in rangefinder and computer programing and lights a dot in the reticle for you. Said it works very well out to a 1,000 yards or so.
If a guy goes to Africa and tries at shot a 300 yards and misses seems like maybe he did not practice very much or something.
