I posted this as a reply to another thread with the same question but thought it might be worth a thread.

I just made up some 175 lswc boolits. TC to .472 with OAL at 2.22. Using this with 5.5gr w231. These cycle my Kahr CW45 nice and feed fine but I do have a question.

I notice that at this OAL the case mouth is over the driving band and up on the shoulder a little so the boolit looks recessed into the case. Is there any downside to this such as extra wear on the brass or inadequate accuracy problems? These are the first boolits that I have done like this and I have always had mixed results with lswc's

I do my 45's the same way I see no problem.
others of course will.

I usually set the col of my cartradges on my 45 acp pistols out as far as the chamber will allow and have the rear head of the case flush with the rear of the barrel hood.
I have 2 Kahrs a TP45 & CW45 both require a little deeper seating by .010 to .015 of the bullet than my 1911 style 45 acp i have the Saeco 068 200gr SWC , 063 170 gr SWC , 058 215gr swc and RBCS 230 RN.

I have always set SWC so the shoulder is just above the case mouth. If anything is going to hang up, it's going to be on the sharp case mouth. I would try an OAL a bit longer, see if it feeds fine, at least get the shoulder flush w/ the case.

The boolit, as seated,, will just barely clear the magazine so that is the max OAL. I am noticing that every few do not eject properly and hang up. I think I may just abandon the 175gr swc in this gun as they don't seem to work well which is fine. I'll go back to rnfp or rn boolits.

Anyone try turning the swc over and making a wc with this? The boolit point might be down into the powder but I don't think it would compress much.

Well jonp, I like my SWC's in my 1911's, but I can't say I've ever turned one upside down. Mine have been working OK with the pointy end up. Try setting your OAL by "plunk testing" with the barrel removed from the pistol. To me, that's definitive. Mike
