View Full Version : Does my Onena 9mm Largo carbine have a chance at cast accuracy?

First of all, it is the predecessor to the Destroyer carbine. Nice bright bore once I scrubbed it out really well, except the first 2" after the chamber is eroded(rounded rifling, pits) but still shiny. It shot all over the place with a couple of ~100 gr boolits sized to .358". Bore is .356-7" and .358" is about all I can fit in the case. I was shooting very light loads. Could they be going to slow to stabilize? The 2 boolits I tried are kind of long for their weight, Lyman 36072 and Saeco 377, and the RD is much shorter. The good news is this little rifle can use cases converted from cheap .223 brass rather than 9mm Win Mag(Starline is to short for both my rifles). I took it to the range to see if the brass would work out before I made more, not to truly work up loads. Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm shooting a Saeco 122 gr. RN at approximate military load velocity in a Destroyer. Try upping your load to spec boolit weight and velocity, same diameter boolit and see what it gives you. Destroyers shoot fine for what they are.

I shoot 105 & 120 gr cast in my Destroyer at 800 - 950 fps and have shot them a lot lower....faster too. I use the Lee 358-105-SWC and the 356-120-TC.

I loaded some 356-242 122 grainers for one a few years back. I have no notes on the load, but my recollection is that it gave "M-1 Carbine"-like accuracy at 50 yards. Which was better than the Imported junk ammo that came with it. That gun went down the highway, too much trouble for me to mess with.
