casca,

I'm sorry that I can't help you with the 800x.

I have shot a lot of Keith's 260 grainer out of my 45s. But I've always used either Unique or now Universal Clays. When you think about it, the boolit only weighs just a bit more that the standard 230 grain. The biggest difference with the Keith boolit is that it seats much deeper than the ball round. When you loose case capacity, you increase pressure. Sometimes by quite a bit.

I worked up my Universal loads carefully and I stopped short of where I could have gone. I feel that a 260 at 800 feet will do what I need so why push it any further.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the powder.

Interesting. Every time I ponder utilizing a 250 or heavier bullet in 45ACP I end up with the thought process thet Catshooter wrote about. Do you really gain much?

It makes one hell of a pin round!

You are right of course. My primary experience with pin shooting came at a range I was a member of about 10-12 years ago. The MD would frequently mix in a hybrid stage, featuring a few bowling pins, or utilizing one as a start or stop target, at our IDPA matches. My 230 gr 45 ACP sure had an advantage over the 9mm. So I guess the 250 gr would be spot on for pins.

I have a buket load of 250 gr. bullets, would like to shoot a few in the ACP but if i can't then will stick them in the colt or 454 brass.

dosen't have to be 800x just got 2 cans sitting there looking at me on the shelf.

if you have the 45 colt it will shoot 800-x just fine.
those 250's and 10-12 grs of 800-x is a nice load the pressure is a bit over the 14-k zone for the colt type guns though.

I have shot the Lee 250gr RF in my 1911and it worked good. We do a steel knock down at one IDPA Fun event. One guy shoots from left to right the other right to left. The middle one has two flaps that overlap. The first to finish wins the heat. The 250s knock the steel over with authority! No second shot needed! ;)

I have never used anything slower than Unique in an 45ACP.

I couldn't find any data for 800X in my manuals, But Speer #10 gives 4.4, 722 fps-4.9, 794 fps for 700 X with the Speer 260 gr. Jkt. HP.

Don't get me wrong Mike, I love the boolit! In the 45 they deliver a wonderfully heavy blow. With great penetration. It should, after all it's basically the same ballistics as the standard 45 Colt load. While mine only weighs 35 grains more than my 452374 boolits, it's still 35 grains. Gotta be pretty close to fifteen percent heavier.

Also very accurate.

I load the Lyman .452664, which is a 250gr rounded flat nose design. Even though I live and fish in bear country, I prefer my trusty .45 ACP to a more powerful handgun. Although I've used stouter loads in the past, 4.5gr of Unique gives about 800fps and seems both mild and accurate in my M1911.

Several years ago I bought a 500 count box of Berry's plated 250 gr. , .452" for. 45 Colt. Never obtained very good accuracy from a Vaquero and Judge. After I got a good micrometer, the Berry's turned out to be. 451". Found some load data in the Lee manual for this weight of cast boolits in. 45 Auto. ACC#7 gave very tight groups so I loaded the rest of the box and made better use of them than rattling down the. 45 Colt barrels

I shoot the Lee 452-255 SWC out of my 1911s with 3.5 grains of Bullseye, for a little over 700 fps and target accuracy.

For years I have been loading 5 grains of Red Dot under a 260 grain RNFP. I put a 22 LB spring in my pistol when shooting this load. This is an old Keith load. So those of you who know how he loaded know you are on your own if you load it. In my Colt 70 it runs right at 900 fps.

I ran some test loads w/ a long 250gr LSWCHP for my M625. I used Unique, no reason you could not work up loads for 800X. I could safely get 850fps in the 4" bbl. The loads would also feed in my 1911, but I feel it's too much bullet wt w/o changing recoil springs. You could run it slower of course, but I don't really see the point of a 250gr bullet going below 800fps.

Work up slow and measure case head expansion and you will find the limitations of your pistols chamber/slide speed/ breech timing.
I have a FNX 45 built for the stout stuff. Yankee hill 3 port comp, 24# Rowland RSA, and Wolf extra power mag springs. I could not shoot this without the weight of the comp and the delay caused by the gas and spring. Keeps the breech closed longer and lets the heavy slide of the FN stay closed longer.

This is in my pistol exclusively!!!
11 grains of 800X with a CCI large pistol primer, in new Sig brass. I seat the bullet at the crimp groove and use a Lee FCD die and crimp the **** out of it.
This load will grenade unsupported chambered guns.
9 gr of 800x will work well in most 1911s. 8.7 grains of blue dot does well also.

The 45 ACP is a fantastic cartridge and in its original specs has an unfair presence against the 40,000 plus cartridges like the 10mm and 9x25 Dillon and such. With proper equipment and careful planning, regular quality ACP brass can be pushed to Rowland specs. Again, proper equipment and an understanding of What brass is showing you. Many threads on this matter out there. Not for the beginner though. You will end up sad with beat up stuff.
