I loaded up some 158LRN sized to .358 in my Hi-point 995 that has a 1-8 twist with 2.8 grains of bullseye powder. Had 850ish fps but they where tumbling. No sighs of over pressure. Was thinking of bumping up charge and see if they will stabalize? Any one have other ideas. Anyone shoot 147 grain bullets and be stable. Thanks in advance.

This does not answer your question exactly, but maybe it's of some help.

From my LC9, I've fired a few 158FP's both jacketed and plated. I don't recall the powder (I think 231) or charge off the top of my head, but I did not have any tumbling. 1:10 twist. This barrel loves plated bullets, either .355 or .357, it's not too fond of jacketed but absolutely hates cast. Oh yeah, I practice with this gun at 7yds only so I have no idea if there's any tumbling beyond that.

I don't have your firearm but shoot a fair number of 147 plated and some 158 cast thru 9x19 without issue but I load mine to be between 1000 and 1100 fps - using VV N320 powder (very clean burn) - Never heard of Bullets eye but if that's Bullseye - with 147 grain you'd need about 4.2 grains to get to 1000 fps which is close to max in my guns.

Do you have a chronograph?

I have not used the LRN, but do use a semi wadcutter 158 in one of my 9mms, it does just fine with up to 3.5 gr of bullseye; it likes 3 best, but I think you could bump it up a tad- but be careful, that's a heavy bullet and a fast powder.

The only gun I've shot 158 grain LRNs from was my BHP. That was decades ago and it was the only boolit I had at the time ... new wife, new job, little money and etc.. It worked fine; I just didn't like it. In fact, disliking that round is, in a way, what got me to buy my first 9mm mold: single cavity Lyman 356402.

I don't remember the powder specifically, but in those days all I had was Unique. I wouldn't want to hazard a guess as to load, but it wasn't a stiff one.

Yes have a chronograph. I will try a tad higher load of Bullseye and maybe try unique see how that works. Thanks

Ly 358311. I've shot a bunch of them in a a 92FS, and they worked well. I do not recall load data. There is some load data in Lyman #45 if I remember rightly.

I've played with the 358311 158gr RN. The issues that I've had was with having to seat the boolit deep. This causes the base of the boolit to be greatly reduced in size, by as much as .004 due to the inside taper of of the case. This caused quite a few cases to budge near the base of the cartridge. The swagging down of the boolit caused heavy leading in my pistols and poor accuracy.

I think you have a size issue meaning too small causing the tumbling. A 1 in 8" twist is twice as fast as any revolver made and there were some very slow loads shot in bullseye pistol with 1 in 16 or 18 twists. Pull a couple of loaded rounds, I'll bet the tapered 9mm case is sizing your bullets down.

PS. I shot 158 rns in my Browning HP at 800 fps with it's 1 in 10 twist using Bullseye and got very good accuracy.
