I made my weekly check at the LGS in Lebanon, MO Friday. They had some Colt 22 LR's also some 9mm, 38 Spl. and .357's. The center fires had Colt as the head stamp. From the info on the boxes looks like it's made in Russia. Has anyone seen any of this ammo? The boxes are sort of dark blue. The owner said his distributor called and gave him a price on the ammo and he didn't even ask what make it was, he just said ship it.

Any way we could see a pic? One would believe Colt authorized its name to be used with royalties paid but who knows.

Like the COLT 22 pistols made by Walther??? I'll but it's OK by Colt. Right now I wouldn't care if 22 ammo was marked Feces if I could just get some.

That wouldn't be too surprising. Look at the junkmail catalogs, such as Sportsmans Guide and its competitors. Starting with knives, there's all kinds of nicknacks branded Winchester and Remington. A few years before Winchester's demise, I was hoping that they'd connect with Uberti to let them use their name, around the time that cowboy shooting started getting popular. Colt could have done the same thing. It would be smart these days for those who hold rights to names like Colt, Winchester, Remington, etc to import 22 ammo for sale under their brand names. Let's face it--there's a shortage of 22 ammo, and some of that foreign stuff is darned good.

I have some pictures. Looks like the 22lr's are made by Aguila in Mexico ad the center fires are made by bear.

In the LE business we called this "whoring out". Some companies and agencies will sell their name to the highest bidder.

The Aguila stuff I have used has been good. If the price is right I would jump on it. I have not been able to find 22lr at our local stores since this started.

They were $6.00 for a box of 50, plus tax.

I'd put away a box or two of the RF ammo, in ziplock bags. This has a real
possibility of being worth some money in 10 yrs and more than that in
20 yrs. Collectors love unusual ammo, esp .22 LR.

Of course, if they keep doing this on a large scale for the next 10 yrs, it
will just be .22 ammo.

.22 LR is rapidly becoming the next form of currency....little shortage and panic buying situation and all

I went to the range last week and several people were amazed that I had 22's and had to ask me were I bought the brick I was using. When I said it was 4 years old they had the air let out of their balloon. I told them about the LGS that had the Colt ammo. They had never been to the LGS, they bought ammo at Wal-Mart and big stores like Basspro and Cabela's, none of which ever have any 22's. Hopefully I made some more customers for our LGS.

I bought some Aguila 22 ammo a couple of years ago. It was great stuff. Shot really well and smelled great. Mike

It's like the old Smith & Wesson handgun ammo that was made under license back in the 80's. S&W has never manufactured ammo, but they sure sold a lot of it. Back then the guns shops had to buy a certain amount of S&W ammo, leather, knives, etc. to get the guns. If you bought the junk, you could buy the guns, no junk, no guns!
