First and foremost I must take time to thank the fine folks that sent me some WW metal. Thank you for helping me with some lead, without it I would not have enjoyed this day of shooting. We indeed have fine people in our forum.
Since Ruger sent me the new replacement pistol S R H 44 Mag. 7.5" I have not shot it much, but today I took it out and thought I would start at 25 Yards with some old tried and true loads and a couple of new ones.
The brass was trimmed to the same length but the head stamps were all mixed,
The primers were WW Large pistol, the powder was Long shot, Unique, and HS6
I had never tried the HS6 before and was very happy with the results.
All the targets were shot at 25 yards off a sand bag rest, the red targets are 1"
and the black targets are the same 1" targets made black with a sharpie marker.
It was a cloudy overcast day and the temp. was about 50* F no wind to speak off.
All targets have a minimum of 6 shots, some have 12 shots and some had 8 shots.
The bullets were from a Lyman 429421 250 grain mold that Rich (GP100 MAN ) lent me.
The target on the lower right was from a 429244 260grain with the gas check.
Carl (CH boats ) sent me that mold last year.
I am very grateful to these folks.
Men, I did the best I could with the 71 year old eyes. Fiber optic sights do help.

Top left target is just shy of 1/2" center to center with a 250 grain 42942
The load is 11 Gr. HS6

next is 12.5 Gr. HS6

The second row left to right is 9.4 Unique for both targets.

The third row left to right is 10 grains of Long shot with the target on the right having the 421244 bullet I thought I hittem purdy good. I want to up the HS6 load to at least 13 grains.
Thank you for looking

I've had great accuracy with an RCBS 44-250-kt and some tac-1 lube over 18.6 grains of 2400.
Pushed out the same hole with 6 shots at 25 yds. Best I've ever shot with any handgun at that range.

I love my SRH.

I don't think I'd ever part with it.

That's some good shooting! I'll bet those loads do pretty well at 50 and 100...then you can settle on your favorite. HS6 and the 429421 look like they are going to be a winner for you. Good luck, and post some more pictures when you up the charge to 13grs...I (and I'm sure a lot of other folks on here) will be interested in your results.

Hey !! --Yall should have seen me shoot when I was 20
Holly carp bat man, that was a heap a years ago.
Julie always ask why I just don't shoot three shots for a group like most people ??
I guess I'm just not that kind a guy, I think any one of those loads would put Mr. Deer on the table.
Thank you for the come backs men.

I'm 71 and wish I could still shoot as good as I once did. My Redhawks still shoot very good for me but it's harder to do now. Those groups are great....

I'm 25, and I don't shoot that well most (any??) days! I don't think has age has much to do with it. Sure, at some point everyone's eyes go a bit, but good sights and good form can make up for it. My grandfather is one of the finest shots I know, and he's in his mid '70s. He doesn't shoot milsurps or traditional blade sights as well anymore...but he discovered peeps and fiber optic/contrasting front sights keep him in the game. He still occasionally shoots bullseye...and he beats guys 1/3 his age (including me).

Well done! I just inherited a can of W540 which is HS6, so I guess I need
to give it a try. Looks like 9.4 Unique does about the same as I have found
with 0.6 gr more.

You got me by 9 years, I can still do that now, but I wonder if I can in 9 more.

I loved my SRH but a friend talked me out of it so I could buy a BFR. I still get to shoot it a lot.
Other friends have them and I have not seen one that does not shoot good. I will always miss the gun.
That's good shooting.

Sam - I'm glad you are not just letting that mold rust away. Fine shooting. Have you used one of those 44s on a moose yet?

9.5" SRH, scoped
C429310 (to top grimp groove) and 18.5 grains of H110 speed WC 820 and mine does amazing things (faster or slower and it loses accuracy).

300 grain coated and WC 680 does alright also.

Good shooting there ...... Dead Eye Sam!!!

I am constantly singing praises for HS-6 and lead!!

My favorite is the RCBS 250K and 11.8 gr. of HS-6 with the Federal mag. primer and the insides of my flash holes champhered.

My SRH in .44 was traded to a friend who baited me with a .480 in the same frame.

I still have my RH and Smith MG in .44 though.

Bottom line, I like all of them so long as it starts with a "4" or better!! .......... .41 and on up!!!

And a very good mid-range powder in ever single of those "4" somethings is HS-6 powder!!

Sam, I would carry that target in my back pocket and lead every conversation somehow into shooting just so I could pull it out. If I had known someone in Maine could shoot like that I would have really kept my eyes peeled when I was in Mexico picking up paper.
Great shooting.

I enjoy my 9.5" SRH in both .44mag and .480R, both shoot great. I was considering selling my .44 SRH but I think I'll hang on to it for a bit longer after seeing those targets. I'll get mine out and play with it some more.
Good job Sam

Thank you men,
All the nice words and support are really making me feel good, and to tell the truth I needed it.
Then again we all need it at times. That's what's so great about this place, not just for me or a select few, but for everyone. The support we give each other is very important, no matter for a beginner an in between-er, or an old timer.

Nice job, Sam. Really.... What kind of optic do you have on the SRH ?? Way to go. Mike

Red fiber optic in the trunk, and green on the hood.
My plan is to get an Ultra dot 4 in 30MM, Weingang ( spelling ) mount and Warne QD rings.
But that's a small fortune for me. I am a clean gun fanatic and I don't like getting solvent on my scopes. The black powder rifle I sold in order to get the original Black hawk hunter had Warne QD rings and I liked them very much, they went on and off many times and never drifted more than 1/4 inch. I must say that for me the formula for accurate shooting is not to have the sight picture move in any way when the cap goes off. Now that's put in very, very simple terms.
It's like I put my trigger finger on another planet and concentrate on the sights.
Look--squeeze, Look--squeeze, Look--squeeze,---BANG I find it impossible to shoot any gun well with if it has a nasty trigger. Sure you can do it, but it will bite you down the road,
it's just not consistent. I have shot next to folks with every kind of home made rest, store bought rest, half home made, half store bought, hood of cars, rolled up jackets and shooting bags, you name it. Thing is I find people just don't know how to use the rest, whatever it may be.
For me, it's sand bags, properly made, filled with the correct material and most of all used in the proper way. I have given my bags to folks and they don't have a clue as to how to position themselves and how to place the pistol (or rifle with two bags ) on or into the bags.
That's one of the reasons people can have a 20 page discussion about the subject.
Many folks just don't understand the dynamics involved with shooting from a rest.
I had a guy shooting the best groups he ever shot with my bags, there not even anything special
believe me. But I showed him how to create a stable platform by using the malleability of a soft sand filled bag. What does he do ? he shows up the next time with a bag about 6" in diameter,
1 foot long, filled and packed so tight it was like shooting off an Italian Salami.
Point, he leaned nothing.
I am not trying to start another multi page thread about shooting rest, just making a point.

GW, you do like I do.
I understand the cost thing too. If I have 2 dollars in my wallet I feel good. SS sucks.
But poor is not any excuse for poor accuracy so I am with you all the way.
