Need a lube recomendation. I am thinking of getting a Lee Real Bullet mold for my Lyman 50cal Trade rifle to uses in a match that I shoot in that you can uses conical bullets. Its a gang shoot were 15 shooters shoot at the same time at 50 knock down targets at differnent distances (50-70-100 -125yds) and get a higher number of points for the more distant targets. For the people that uses Lee Real Bullets, what lube works for you. I live in the Socialist/Marxest Peoples Republic of California in a very hot and dry area (between LA and Lost Wages) so lard based lubes can be a problem in the summer. I would also be interested in what did not work. Thanks

try a couple of coats of lee/s alox. it is a hard lube that really works. some say it isnt for blackpowder but it is just fine with black powder. how ever i wipe between shot and some dont. if you dont wipe it may be a probem with a little fouling. again try some with 2 coats dried over night. before you put them down put a little thompson bore butter on the bullet. keep the powder charge under the bullet low enough to be be consistantly accurate. some thing i did with them is to wrap the lower half with 2 wraps of number 9 onion skin paper twist the tail tight and cut close to the base. wrap opposite the way your rifleing turns. use a felt wad or fiber wad between base and powder. with those i used more powder because they wont strip out. the 1/2 paper patched ones proved real accurate. i also coated them with lee alox. keep the tin content to no more than 20 to 1 but 30 to one is more preferable. even pure lead may be best. good luck, with a little tweeking they really can shoot.

50/50 bees wax and vegetable oil. Add some Crisco to stiffen.
I use that in my flint, cappers, and cap and ball pistol. A snap to clean up.
With the R.E.A.L., you smear the lube in the grooves and load. I use a rubber mallet to set the load into the bore.
I like those R.E.A.L.s They perform well. I use them when my bore gets fouling also. Cleans it up.

Use 2-3 complete coats of the Lee Alox. Works just fine.

I used BPCR lube. I heated it up and dipped them. It worked very well. The BPCR lube is made for black powder and it is stiff enough to withstand a far amount of summer heat. I got mine from White label lube but I don't know if they still sell it. Ron

NASA lube from the Bullshop. Helps control fouling and leading and keeps you shooting.
