Ok, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot stand anymore errors or downtime with this forum.
With that being said I will be getting us on a new server that should be faster and will definatly be more reliable. This is going to take some serious work on my part so please bare with me.

What does this mean?

On Monday night 8/15/05 when the forums die down a bit (around midnight). I will shut the forums down, and transfer all the information over to the new server. I will then have to update whats called the "Nameservers" to reflect the new host/server. Once this happens, it will take from a few seconds to the very latest of 3 days (depending on where you live) to get the forum back up. The servers are located in California. I hate to have to do this, but to help support our growing needs, this has to be done.

What does this mean to you?

All this means to you is that the forum will be down for a small while, but once it comes back. Everything will be just normal (just faster and more reliable). The name (castboolits.gunloads.com) will of course be the same, there is nothing changing. The only thing changing is the actual computer that is hosting the site.

Please post questions that you have about the changeover, I want everyone to feel comfortable with this before it happens (I can postpone the date I do this, but I did this based on activity)

I hope everything goes well in the switch, and I guarentee that all information is 100% safe and secure so there will be no dataloss. Once the site becomes back online in Idaho (where I live) I will re-enable the boards for posting.

Thanks everyone. And believe me, this will be a great upgrade for us.

Willy

This is one of the most user friendly and informational sites I visit. Thank you for your efforts, I'm sure it will be even better after the upgrade.

Hopefully everyone is updated on this issue so there won't be any surprises.. I updated another domain name to the server and it only took about 4 hours. So I am hoping that most everyone won't even expierence any downtime due to the upgrading happening at night. But just be prepared for at least 1 day, maybe 2 days down.
Thanks

How is the overall speed of the site? Can you browse around faster and does your brand new post show up quicker? Give me some feedback! :D

This is clearly faster than before. If those "seems to be a problem" thingies are gone as well, then it's super! Thank You!

"Seems to be a problem" error messages should be a thing of the past.
I'll give you a bit of an update on how and why.

BEFORE
We had two servers. One was the main web server, the other was the database server, two completely seperate computers. The main web server was very stable, the database server was not very stable and was overloaded quickly and had limits. So I had to deal with the limits and with the speed of connecting from one server to another to get information.

NOW
It's 1 computer running both the web server and database server. So what you get is 1 computer doing all the computing and storing all the information with no limits and you don't have to go out and find the database server to pull the information, so it's much faster. Plus this server is very stable and does backups NIGHTLY.

Also, with this server. I am able to have e-mail addresses with subdomains.. Meaning. I can give someone an e-mail address like: Finn45@castboolits.gunloads.com

Gonna be sweet :)

Do you have plans to do such a thing? E-mail addresses and room to store pictures, stuff like that.

I did mention quite a while back if anyone would be interested in their own e-mail address from here. But I dont think I got enough intrust to make it happen. As for the photos, I setup some photo software a while back for people to use.

There are a few glitches to it, but it seems to work pretty good. I don't think many people know what FTP space is, or I could do something along those lines..

"...I don't think many people know what FTP space is, or I could do something along those lines..."

I'd sure like some FTP space, if you're offering!

Even with my s-l-o-w dialup, the difference in speed with the new server setup is downright noticable! Good work, Willie.
