Beretta leaving Maryland due to gun control laws!

Beretta has announced that it will make good on it's vow to leave Maryland if restrictive gun control laws are passed.

It is heartening to see these companies making good on their promises to resist restrictive legislation! Hooray for Beretta!

I wrote Beretta and let them know that as soon as they were out of the Socialists Republic of Maryland that I would personally celebrate by purchasing a brand new Beretta handgun.

Also told them that if they relocated to Texas, I'd celebrate by purchasing TWO brand new Beretta handguns. :)

Beretta isn't moving out of Maryland any time soon at best they won't expand in the state. Maryland gun owners aren't very happy with Beretta's Bluff and they won't be selling many guns in the state.

Well, I wont do it to SPITE Maryland, but if they move to Texas, I think we will have more firearms manufacturing capabilities than near any other state! And yep, I will support them wherever they move. I have been wanting an M-9, anyway.

Many companies in the anti-gun northern states are too heavily invested in where they are to just pull up & move immediately. There are union contracts etc that could cost them millions.
But,,, they can & appear to be doing whatever they can to reduce that problem.
Maintain current manufacturing where they are.
Build a plant in a friendlier place w/o the restrictions they currently face.
Once up & going, a new plant can assume manufacturing that has been in other places,, as the company can get out from under some restrictions. Or, putting it simply, they can downsize a plant over time to where they reduce their workforce (and taxes, jobs etc) w/o penalties they would face if they pulled out immediately.

Basically, I think several gun related businesses are studying how to do this. A few started it years ago. (Ruger built a plant in AZ, and are looking at another place currently. Remington moved some of their stuff to NC.) It will take time & careful planning to avoid the loss of lots of money.

If Beretta moves to Texas Maryland gun owners will buy Texas made Berettas they just won't buy Maryland made ones. They are mad because Beretta didn't have the stones to follow through on their threat to move when Governor OWEMally called their bluff. This will hurt any other state with a gun manufacturer who ever threatens to move because the state will look at Beretta and figure it's only bluffing.

They didn't say they would leave the state. They said they would change their plans to expand their facilities in Maryland.

Back before the law was passed they said they would LEAVE! I know all about moving manufacturing plants and current contracts and no one expects them to leave tomorrow. But before the law passed they said they would leave and now they say we won't expand production in Maryland, two very different things. It appears they have no plans of ever leaving one of the most anti gun states in the nation as long as the laws passed by the state let them continue to produce and sell to the rest of the country things that can't be sold to their own employees.

Texas is doing its best to get new businesses. Liberals whine that we have a very lax regulatory policy. We see it as not trying to hound businesses out of existence. SpaceX, I believe it is, would love to locate down by Brownsville. The people down there are trying everything they can to make it happen. Hopefully, it will. Beretta would be more than welcome down here, and probably find the political climate and general climate much better than other places. Hopefully our State officials will pick up on this. Hmmmm. Maybe some of us Texicans on CastBoolits should contact some of our representatives. I think I will drop Jerry Patterson, our Land Commissioner an email. With him and our coyote shootin' Governor, we got some good people in Austin.

Read it for yourself, and post the words where Beretta 'promises to leave' Maryland.

A lot of folks have 'interpreted' what they think Beretta has said. But if the words don't come from the mouth of somebody at Beretta, the words don't mean squat.

I would hate it for the folks that work at the plant now. However it may be good to leave them to fill the contracts and move elswhere for the rest of the company.

They can never make everyone happy all the time, but I would commend them for leaving an antigun state that clearly doesn't want them or their jobs/$$$$$$$$. I would celebrate their leaving with a 20ga semiauto shotgun.
