A long time ago I bought a Pedersoli mould made for their Gibbs rifle. 545gr, parallel body, short nose, and small tumble lube type grooves. Casts out at .451". I never really had much use for it, but it was cheap so I picked it up. Recently I decided to make it more useful so I chucked it up in the lathe and took .375" off the top. Re-drilled all the holes and made it work again. Now it throws a 398gr. slug. Patched with green bar paper, and sized .459" (.460" with springback) it is proving exceptionally useful in my C.Sharps rifle and today in the Marlin 1895CB.

Loaded over 45gr. VV N-133 and a little dacron fluff, it runs right at 1800 fps. Cast from dead soft lead, it expands like crazy when it hits things. In the Sharps it shot one big ragged hole for 10 shots at 100 yards, and about 2.1 inches at 200 yards. In the Marlin it put 10 into just a touch over 1.5 inches at 150M today.

Nothing fancy, no big tricks, just seat them so the patch engages the rifling and it's good to go. Heck, the Marlin load even feeds through the magazine. I do believe I have found a very useful boolit!

I am fond of the Lyman 451114 myself. Drops a .451 with pure and just under .452 with COWW. 430gr with the WWs and 436 out of pure. It is my go to bullet in both my 45-70 and my .458 Winchester.

Kinda what I was after with this one - very similar.

If you paper patch a 45cal rifle the 451114 is a "must have." IMHO anyway. I size down and patch 11 different 45cal bullets but the best by far is the Lyman.

OK Mr. pdawg, a new 451114 is on its way. Any work with the "EVIL" micro? I have a whole pile of thumpers to try it in/on. Just about finished a M70 450 Marlin that is going to need to taste it. If I may- your sugar load living between 1800-2k? Thanks, Gtek

In my 1895g I like 54gr of AA2495. A slightly compressed load (100% + load density always gives me the best accuracy) moderate recoil, and enough thump to handle anything in western Kansas.

Brand new guy here and really new to casting - matter of fact I have so far only cast Lee slugs - my question was answered (I think) in the above posts - it was could someone use cast .451 bullets un-sized for a 45-70?

I bought some cheap bullets in .451 and don't have a sizer so I didn't used them for my .45 ACP - so I tried using them in the 45-70 as a cat whisper round with Bullseye and unique - they seemed to work, but then I though Paper patch would keep the leading down - Am I in the right ball park here?

Thanks for any help!
