My old and true friend Alex passed yesterday at the age of 91.
Alex was a horse cavalry trooper in the PA National Guard when the Second World War threatened; he was accepted for pilot training at the age of 20 years and proceeded to get his wings and, eventually, to command a B-17 in the Eighth Air Force and complete 30 combat missions.
Alex returned to his hometown after the end of that war and raised a family, a hard working man and a good father.
He was of the "greatest generation"- typically modest, typically a gentleman.
Fair skies, Alex!

Good morning
It sure leaves an empty place in the heart. May God grant all surviving veterans peaceful days and joy in their hearts.
