I can't figure it out, it is either a new old project or and old new project![smilie=1: Anyway a few years ago I was at a swap meet and someone had a M/L new in the box for $65. It was clearly not new but still in the box. He took $50 for it.:-D I don't remember what brand(some off brand) but it is similar to a CVA Kentucky in fact probubly made by the same company. The receipt in the box was dated 1982. I was thinking of converting it to Flintlock but it has a wierd end to it and the powder drum is one solid piece moulded into a one inch long piece of octagon metal threaded into the end of the barrel.:-?
Not a big deal as it is a cheap gun and I was looking for a project to do and you hardly see any M/L's any more made of wood except for the expensive ones. I always wanted on tiger striped and was going to buy an expensive piece of wood but that would be like putting hubcaps on a tractor so I decided to fake it instead.
I got the proper wood stain and I was going to paint the stripes on and sand enough to feather the edges but It wasn't working out so I went with a marker instead. It didn't look that great at first but after all cheap gun what do I have to loose. I stained over the stripes a couple coats to make it nice and dark and it looked better but still not great.
I used a hand oil finnish and the more coats I put on it the better it looked. I'm not one to brag but it come out so far looking not half bad. I did one fupa though. I did prefit the brass but forgot to fit the barrel. I went to fit the barrel and it wouldn't fit. Only thing I could figure was the wood was so old that it dried allot (partially due to the climate here) and srunk up enough I couldn't fit it.
I set it aside for awhile due to other things going on and not wanting to deal with it. I finally figured out a good way to fit it was to carefully take a drimmel with a sanding drum and take off enough wood to fit it. It didn't come out perfect but still not too bad. It's probubly going to end up being a wall hanger that I can shoot anyway especially since I already have a dozen M/L's already.:-D
Next task is to do the final fit and brown the barrel.:coffee:

The pictures don't do it justice. It doesn't look near as good up close and it only took 25 years to put it together. I'm not saying it looks bad. It does look good but with a few errors. Actually it was a cheap kit I picked up that was never done. It was kind of a practice run. Some day I would like to build a custom one with top of the line materials and I sure don't want to practice on that. Thanks for the comments though. I plan on taking it out this week to see how she does!
