I am building a new design dipper pot with PID electronic temperature controls for retail sale. It is an industrial grade design. It has about a 50 Lb. capacity, 1200 Watts, and either 120 or 240 Volts. After reading some of the threads on this blog it looks like it might be welcomed. I have all the components gathered and will assemble the prototype next week. I also plan the same capacity pot with a simple temperature control switch (like most of the pots which are currently available) at a lower cost point.
I would value the opinions of the readers of this forum. I'm not promising, but if you could have anything you wanted in a lead melting pot, what would it be? Future designs will take your opinions into account.
There is a bottom pour model in the design stage at about 150 Lbs. at 240 Volts.
Thank you.
Sounds very interesting !
Please post photos of your prototype next week so we can comment.

I am interested in 120 volt for dipping. I would like a simple large capacity melter, no bottom pour.

Is 50 Lbs. large enough? What is your ideal capacity?

50 sounds great. I like dipping, and would like a bigger pot to dip out of. I rarely cast 20# at a time, but of course there is no way to dip all 20 of my Lee. (and a PID would really be nice.) I could dip probably 35# or so, and wouldn't have to keep messing with the settings...... I'm already happy!

Here are photos from yesterday. This is a prototype to prove the ideas, not a complete unit for sale. The completed unit will have a nice enclosure and wiring cabinet on the side.
