Go up to the "search" function and do the search with terms such as "Garand" or "M1 Garand".

There are pages upon pages of load data and other information specific to the M1 Rifle. (I just performed that search, and came up with EIGHTY-FIVE PAGES of "hits". It will kick out any mention of the word "Garand", so not all of the results are actual load data... but a lot of it is,)

You have a great rifle, and one that will work beautifully with cast bullets. YES, you will need gaschecks for virtually any successful load.

A heavier boolit will likely be your friend, IMR 4895 or something close to that burn rate will be the place to start. When I had a Garand, the only 30 cal mold I had was a 311-291 170 grainer. I no longer have those notes, but IIRC, I took the data from Lyman's 3rd Edition, started at the bottom and worked my way up until it would reliably work the action. I think you'll have to drive a 150 grainer pretty fast, with a consequent loss of accuracy, to get reliable function. I used heat-treated wheel-weights and Javelina Brand 50/50 Lube and had no problems with leading. Where I giving it a go today, I'd use my 4 cavity SAECO 190 grainer.

scroll down to "CB Loads/Military Rifles" forum and do your search there. Lot of great info to be found.

I tried the lighter boolits in my Garand, but settled on the 311299, a 200 grain boolit. Got much better results. If you want, I can send you some to try. PM me and I'll mail you out some.
