ok guys, got a brain fart here, i recently got a great deal on a win 296 8# keg and a 5# keg of blue dot from a retired police officer for 40 bucks each, that being said i dont use much 296 and currently i only use blue dot in my 10 gauge loads and magnum 12 gauge loads.
my question is, i know neither of these powders is ideal for use in the 30-30 wcf but curious if anyone has any experience using either bd or 296 in this caliber. i am beginning to shoot quite a bit of 309150f w/o gas checks and this bulk of powder would be dirt cheap to plink.
my other calibers i shoot a lot is 38 spcl, 357 mag and 32 s&w long. i know there is load data for 357 and 38 but am looking primarily for 30-30 data. if none available or just not feasible i may trade it off for something i use more of. thx[smilie=b:

Forty bucks for an 8 pounder is a no brainer, as long as it wasn't in a flooded basement for 30 years. If nothing else use it for trade. Also a good excuse to buy a new [fill in the blank] that will use it.

not flooded, stored in an air conditioned reloading room since 1990, cans not rusty at all. i agree with you it would make good trading stock

Both 296 and Blue dot are great .357 mag powders and the BD would be usable in the .38 spl.

your 296 is just calling out for a S&W X-Frame :Fire:
I'd go 500 baby

I've had a bunch of blue dot around that I've used in 45 Colt, 45 Auto, 9mm, etc, so when I came across some low velocity data for it for the 30/30, I tried some out... Not bad for a plinker. Not sure how much I would use it, but always through a few rounds in the box for the kids.

Recipe taken from a Speer reloading manual #11 ___per 30-30 win pistol load. (Which isn't all that unreasonable for a rifle to shoot.)

296 powder-150 grain jacketed bullet.

17.5 gr. // 1471 fps- max__pistol speed
15.5 gr. // 1417 fps- min " "
