Hi y'all. As a b-day present:drinks: my wife bought me the RCBS 250gr. Keith mold. I have been wanting this thing for a long time but the extra 60 bucks is always hard to find. Anyway, its mine now. I know ole Elmer designed this bullet to excel at a wide range of velocity. But I ask you, my casting brothers, to recommend your favorite recipes, alloys, and shootin' stories to stoke my enthusiasm for my new "toy"

You're sure lucky! I just had to poney up the money to order this from Midway.

I'm really looking forward to it's arrival. I'm planning on using it in a new (to me) SW-29 Mnt Gun and a 7 1/2" Blackhawk. So I'll be watching the load advice on this thread closely!

You're lucky to have a wife that knows what boolit mould to order. Did you put sticky notes on the refridge?

Around 23 grs. of H-110 or WW 296, 22 grs. of Lil'Gun or WC820, or 15 grs. of Bluedot works well with this boolit in my .44's. I use WW alloy, size at .431", and lube with 50/50 Alox/beeswax.

All disclaimers apply.....be careful and work up from below.

If you want a medium speed load around 1000fps that is easy on the pocketbook as well as the wrists, try 8 to 9 g of Green Dot with a Rem 2-1/2 primer.--Shuz

I am shooting the Lyman bullet that is almost identical. I use 22.5 grains of w-296 a magnum primer and I load them to 1.7". They shoot 1.5 inches at 50 yards with a red dot sight, off the bench. I am using the Lyman #2 alloy-- 9lb.ww and 1lb. 50/50 solder air cooled and sized to .430 in a 1984 S.B.H. I am lubing with Lyman orange.

I use the Lyman version. In .44 Special cases I use the Skeeter load (7.5 grs of Unique). In my various .44 Specials it gives less than 1" groups off the Ransom Rest at 25 yards (some groups MUCH smaller).

In the various .44 magnums over 23.0 grs of H110 or comparable amounts of WC 820 (I get 1200 fps in my S&W 8 3/8" model 29) and with 24.0 grs I get 1300 fps. I have shot many thousands of the 23.0 gr load in my Smith and it is still as tight as the day I bought it. It works just as well in my Ruger Red Hawk. I find it a bit uncomfortable in my 4" 629 but still quite useable. I have a good friend and VERY good shot who likes to run things a good bit hotter and does so with excellent results. However, 1200-1300 fps does everything I need in the .44 magnum and I see no point in beating up either myself or my revolvers.

And there is always Elmer's personal favorite...22 grains of 2400...That is a true mag load but White labratory says it delivers less pressure than factory rounds. If I'm using 2400 it's usually a bit less....19 or 20. Dale 53's load though for me is just perfect for shooting fun in either special or mag forms and it's deadly on Deer.

Current 2400 is hotter than it was in Elmer's day. Your 19-20 is roughly equivalent to his 22gr.
