How fast and nice you can cast boolits when you are not fighting your mold! Hi there all, just worked out the buggy nastiness in my two cavity Lyman #454190 mold and it was pure pleasure dropping boolits out of it tonight. It was holding onto the boolits with ferocity and required much beating with the sprue stick to get it to let em go, usually at great velocity to impact the other side of the block or rocketing into other boolits on the drop towel resulting in a lot of dinged projectiles. Well I polished the cavity's with Flitz on a bullet and took the knife sharp edge off of the sides of the cavity's with four aught steel wool, just enough to remove the really sharp stuff. At 650/660 degrees when the mold was at temp just cut the sprue by hand, open the mold and out pops the boolits, no sprue stick needed! Still drops em with straight COWW alloy at 249 grains instead of 255 and .453 dia instead of the desired .454 but I have a lot of .45 Colts that can use a .452 dia boolit. Hope I did not bore y'all to tears but I wanted to share my victory over the forces of evil!

Cast boolit nirvana is a fun level in life. Keep going, brother caster.

Add a little tin and a little more heat to see if you can get the fill out to .454, You dont need much but worth a try.

Doc is right, add 2% tin to your WW and see if .454 isn't the result.

Sometimes leftover burrs cause mechanical locks preventing dropping. LEEmenting molds improves them A LOT!!

Thanks for the support all! I had tried the 2% tin mix, did a ten pound melt and cast from 650 to 750 degrees in 25 degree increments with really odd results, they dropped at .451/.452 at an average of 245 grains, the results went backwards to expected results. I guess this sort of thing is what keeps things interesting! Now to see if I can get that pesky # 429421 housebroken!
