Like many of you here I am an incurable reader. A meal without a book is like the main course is missing. (Does that tell you I'm not married?) And the good books deserve to be reread to refresh your memory. Bonus: They seem to be even better on the second, third, fourth, whatever, reading. I'm starting to read again, for the unknown number of times, "Shots Fired In Anger", John George. It is available through the NRA. It is about a young Reserve Officer/hunter/target shooter going to war in 1942. Much of the book deals with his experiences on Guadalcanal, the remainder with Merrill's Marauders in Burma. He did a lot of sniping, I'd guess that was recreational for him, and came to rely on the much maligned M1 Carbine for that purpose, finding it more than adequate for the short ranges involved. The book is very heavy with details on our infantry weapons, as well as those of the Japanese. If you don't enjoy the book as much as I do, I'll give you $5 for it.
