Finally got my PET scan today, had to ask the nice technician what they did with the transport containers. He told me their supplier uses a reuseable tungsten cylinder. I guess the days of this good lead source are coming to a close as well.

Yep, sources are drying up all around. I have a friend who works at a local hospital. I asked him to check on the lead aprons that the X-ray department throws away after use. It turns out that this whole hospital chain uses lead-free aprons and has for a while. He talked to a couple of the X-ray techs who told him that they have not seen lead aprons in years! Another source gone!

As lead continues to dry up, will we be forced to purchase new lead?

If you can afford it! At the current price of around $3 a pound, I wouldn't be doing nearly as much shooting!

I have enough to last me for years
and be it that I own the range I go to can recycle all of the lead there

Not sure. There always seems to be a source for second hand lead.

my 2¢

There is "X" amount of lead on this planet. If the industrial demand for it goes down, then so should the price. It's not like it's going to disappear from the planet.

Buy Low, Sell High !
maybe now is the time to sell ?
