I recently found some .223 brass with the following head stamp.
At 12:00 F C
At 6:00 13
At 9:00 1 or it’s blank
At 3:00 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9

I think (correct me if I am wrong) that the F C is Federal Cartridge and the 13 is the year of manufacture.

I don’t have a clue what the 9:00 and 3:00 numbers are for. :veryconfu Can anybody tell me what these stand for.

I just (yesterday) bought a box of 5.56mm Independence Brand (20 Rds.) On the back of the box it states "Made in Israel, Imported in the U.S.A. by, Federal Cartridge Co., Anoka, MN 55303 U.S.A."

The receipt from WalMart list it as IMI 5.56 55G.

The head stamp is Top-FC, Bottom-13, 9 o'clock-0, 1 or 2 (no blank in this box), 3 o'clock-0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9.

They (going by the 9/3 o’clock numbers) are not consecutively numbered. I have 9o/2x3o/4(24), 9o/2x3o/3(23) and 9o/2x3o/1(21) in a box of 20.

SO! Now I know the FC is Federal. Still think the 13 is year of manufacture. Still no clue about the 3 and 9 o'clock numbers.

The primers do appear to be crimped.

It would be pretty cool to sort them in batches of 10 with one each of the numbers at 3:00 to be fired in sequence.

Why yes, I do have OCD, thank you very much!

Probably from Federal's American Eagle line. The headstamp is almost military, but not quite.

FCC is the maker ( Federal). 13 is the year (2013). The other number is the month (1 is January and so forth).

I don't think the other numbers represent the month unless they use a code. I blackened the head stamp with a marker so it would show clearly.77966

I found this @ http://m14forum.com/
By: XXIV Corps
"TAA stands for the Tel Aviv Arsenal, in Israel which started exporting small arm ammunition back in 1954. It came in TZZ headstamp also with the contracts to the United States."

I have never seen the TAA head stamp.

Thanks for the photos. This thread has some neat information in it.

I knew most of the information. But after hand loading 40+ years I didn't have an idea what the TAA head stamp was. But I have shot a bunch of the TZZ target 45 and 38.

I think the dots indicate which machine they were made on. I have a lot of Lake City brass that has the dots and they are not always in the same positions.

I think it's for some reloader's game of poker. One has a pair of Aces and Threes, the other is working on a straight :)

poker makes every bit as much sense as stacking ammo to burn it, or dropping it in the ocean every 10 years, instead of selling it.
