I was going through my stuff the other day when I came on a pile of 357 slugs. The lyman 358429. I used to cast with nothing but linotype. I would buy it at the printer shop for 30 cents a pound. These slugs were linotype. Boy were they purty. I forgot how nice linotype casts. But I don't think I will shoot them. I will let them sit there until I need some more linotype, then I will probably melt them down and add them to regular lead.

I like using linotype for the smaller diameter rifle boollits. I have about 200 pounds which i paid about $250.00

Lino sure makes nice boolits but I wasted an awful lot of it in my youth assuming harder was better.

I hardly use any lino/mono type any more , but i have a good supply on hand if i would need it to alloy some straight PB i think i have about 400lbs that will need alloyed up some day .

I feel the same way, lino is valuable and is better used to alloy. I have about a half ton of pure and wish I could alloy it. All I need is enough pure to feed muzzle loaders.

How much lino would you add to say a 20lb pot.

I use the 20% rule for lino (20 pounds pure needs four pounds lino) and the 10% rule for mono (20 pounds pure needs two pounds mono). Works well for me.
I used pure lino boolits in the .556 cartrige out of my AR-15. Driven near j-word velocities, they tended to fracture on impact and seemed to work well enough. Just unreliable, some seemed to fracture quickly, some were acting like FMJ's. I just kinda gave up on it all together.

I was given 3 large boxes of lino that have been cast in wadcutters for a 38/357.

It sure makes it easy to figure how much to add to the mix this way.

I haven't cast any small rifle boolits with Lino but have made some SWCs (44-250-K) for my .44 Mag. When shot diagonally through a feral hog entering the right shoulder and exiting the left ham it neither expanded nor shattered judging by the exit hole. I won't waste pure lino like that again, though, perferring to cast a more ductile boolit AND make the Lino go farther.

Years ago I also cast with lino but switched to Lyman 5/5 saving a lot of my lino. Wish I had known about WW's way back then, presently my main source of metal for bullets.

Add some more tin to your WWTs and it will cast really nice, too.

I have a couple hundred pound put aside and mix it about 50-50 with Pb for a
really good alloy for mag pistol loads.
