Hunter thought he'd spied his prey..

A hunter accidentally shot his girlfriend on Saturday in eastern Florida after he mistook her for a wild hog. Steven Egan, 52, heard a rustling sound in the bushes and took a shot with his .30-caliber rifle. Instead of a hog, though, the bullet hit his girlfriend Lisa Simmons' upper legs. Emergency officials airlifted Simmons to a hospital where she underwent surgery. No charges were filed, and the local authorities are calling it an accident. "He was very sympathetic that he'd shot his girlfriend," said Major Steve Clair of the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. "I think it was just a violation of one of the cardinal rules of hunting, which is, you never shoot what you don't see."

Stupidity. Wonder how drunk he was?
Didn't know his target? Shot at movement?

Yeah, he doesn't need to own firearms.

Just wait till she gets out of the hospital ... And the realization that her boyfriend thought she was a HOG, so he shot her! He won't be able to use a gun anymore!

That might not be the only thing he won't be able to use anymore!

In all fairness, it could have been an honest mistake. After all, we have not seen a picture of her.:bigsmyl2:

I saw this story on Yahoo's front page "news" just today. Accident? Negligence? Stupidity? Of course it was. But this along with a constant barrage of other anti-gun "news" stories indicates the liberal media is still engaged in a full-court press of gun control propaganda. Out of everything that's happening in the world THIS story needs to be front page news?
Yeah.
Right.
<
Maybe I'm just cynical and cranky and suspicious like many other old men, but maybe old men GET cynical and suspicious because they've seen so much. The thing is, even though their recent attempt at new federal gun laws went down with barely a whimper, the propaganda doesn't seem to have let up much. That makes me think the enemies of liberty are working up to another assault on our rights - and soon.

I used to see a few "whalers" in the Kmart in FL many years ago. We
used to wonder if they had any old harpoon scars on their backs. . . . .

Now we are going to have a "hog" with an old rifle scar on her legs. . . . .

Now that I am done joking, this is a pure out idiot and should get
at least 30 days in the county slammer for negligent injury or some
such thing. Maybe a lawsuit for damages is in order. What a fool!

Usually when hogs are around, you can smell them first.

This happens in Texas all the time. I know of people shot while sitting inside a pickup! Tragic thing, but it is fact. I need to call that guy who used to pick on me in kindergarten and see if he wants to go hunting.

Still waiting. bar hog? road hog? fat pig? No doubt the shooter and victim were l compatible intellectually, her rooting about, he shooting without identifying the target.

All kidding aside, "sound shooting" is an accepted practice for some "hunters". It's a twisted, fatally flawed technique but unfortunately it has it's followers. Same folks fill a cartridge with some random smokeless powder, seat a projectile and proclaim it the ultimate hunting load.

Years ago I had this friend that was hunting the thick cover found on the BC coastal mountains. He was on a game trail when someone on the hill across from him saw the bushes move and cut loose. He hit the ground and fired all ten rounds from his old 303 back across the coulee/ravine. He did hold a mite high. He said he could hear that idiot pick up speed through the bush with each shot!

Years ago I was hunting on a large tract of paper company land in Louisiana. While walking down a fire break to return to camp, I came across another hunter who started walking beside me. I asked if he had seen any deer. He replied that he had not seen anything, but that he had a couple of pretty good "sound shots". I asked what "sound shots" were and he replied "you hear movement in the brush and you shoot it. Then you go see if you got anything."

I did not return to the woods after lunch!

+100!!! Cardinal rule of shooting!!!

Doc Highwall

This reminds me of some of the idiots at the range who shoot at a paper target and say, "I hit the target" not realizing what is behind the target and that the bullets keep going.

It is not just seeing what you are shooting at but also what is behind it when the bullet goes through it.

He won't be able to use a gun anymore! One of my kid's HS buddies was shot by his deer hunting buddy (used to be buddy). #1 told #2 not to shoot anything till he got back checking something out. He should have made sure #2's rifle was UNLOADED! #1 got am '06 flesh wound in the arm. The rules are for a reason.

Many years ago I was hunting in another state on public land. A pair of city slickers were hunting near us and asked if we had seen deer. Said they had gotten a couple of "brush shots". We left the area and two days later one shot the other coming through the brush.

Typical media. Anything that shows firearms in a negative light gets high press and banner headlines. The stories of them used for good and the tool that they are get shoved under the rug or, not even published.
