I am looking for a light, 125 grain or so, cast bullet to use for shooting steel in the 38 special. I would like something that is round nose or maybe TC. I have never tried a TC bullet in a speed loader, but it seems like it would work also.

But the bullet must shoot fairly accurately. I want to be able to tell at a glance, my light loads from my heavier loads. I have a 158 grain swc for my heavier loads.

I have heard people recommend a Lee bullet that is fairly light, but I never got a mold number. I think it was Lloyd that mentioned it.

I am going to run these through a star sizer.

Thanks,

Crabo

I have quite a few 125 gr. RNFP boolets cast from WW's (no tin added). They were cast from the double Lee mould for either 38 or 357 rounds.. I could send you a handfull to try if you want. If they shoot well, then you know to send away for the mould. Or if you want, I'll trade you for some 158's. These are unlubed bullets btw .....

crabo,

Saeco 377 is a good mould, mine drops at 127 and lubed it is right at 130 in my allow. It is a 9mm mould but the one I have will drop at 359. I size 358 and use it in 38 special (S&W 15-3 and Charter Arms Undercover) and 9mm (springfield p9 and glock 19). It does pretty well and works out of speedloaders.

I have a Magma 125 gr. RNFP mould for .38
It works well in speed loaders and is fairly accurate.
I cast up a bunch of 'em for my CAS friends too.
I load them fairly light and usually shoot steel with them. I'll occasionally take a snubbie through an IPSC stage just for fun, and it's always a good thing to practice with the ones that you carry. ;-)

Then, there's the Lyman 358242 (125 grain version) which runs right at 125 grains and shoots well. Should do all right with a speedloader./beagle

There are a lot of TC bullets around for the 9mm, if they cast big enough. I know practical pistol shooters who use them, so they exist.

I use a moly coated 130 gr TC for the Steel Challenge over 3.4 gr of Clays. No resdue underneath the extractor, very accurate and low recoil in my 627.

Go to Group Buys and check out my Slippery 9mm 135gr bullet. It should cast up at .357-.358" if Lee cuts the moulds right, which would be good enough to load in 38 Spl. cases. The pointed round nose will feed really slick into cylinders via speedloaders.
