View Full Version : Ideas about getting blood out of wool pants?

OK, guys...

My wool hunting britches got quite the bloodsmear from a cow elk.

SWMBO has tried handwashing them, but the blood doesn't want to release from the wool. It just seems to reliquify for a while.

Sure, they were MilSurp, and cost me $2.49 years ago, but you know how much they cost to buy new...

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try working the stain with hydrogen peroxide. Ive removed blood stains from my white dress shirt with it.

+1 I've gotten blood stains (even dried blood) out of lots of fabrics & upholstery with peroxide.

They make a produce for removing blood and bio stains but I can't remember the name. They sale it at Wal-Mart and other places like CVS and Walgreens a blood lab worked told me about it a few years back and said she uses it to remove blood stains from her smocks.

We always kept a quart or two on the ambulance to spruce up our uniforms. It helpedto keep the paper work down on reporting blood contact.

I thought peroxide would dye it white. That's how they dye their hair blonde (women).

Hydrogen peroxide works best when the blood is fresh but it sure won't hurt to try. As far as bleaching it I've used it on blue jeans with no problem. I wear camo pants so the blood just blends in.

Soak the cloths in water with a couple of tablespoons of meat tenderizer overnight. Then machine wash as usual.

I think that the secret is to always use cold water. Blood sets and clots at body temperature, or warmer.

I'd try the meat tenderizer. Disolve it in WARM water, and then make it cooler with cold. Soak at room temp. At least it sounds logical if you think about it.

I worked for a dry cleaners for several years, I was the guy that did the dry cleaning and stain removal. I used 28baum ammonia for blood stain removal. Household ammonia should work on it.

Save them for yote hunting, no need to remove the blood.

The best thing I have found to remove blood is the gel hand sanitizer you see everywhere.

Always use cold water also. Hot water 'cooks' the blood in place.

and don't put them in the dryer until you are sure the stain is out. once you dry it, the stain will never come out

Hydrogen peroxide does works best when the blood is fresh but it still works after the blood dries. I use it on my snow camo all the time.

That was my first thought! Just convince SWMBO'd that it should be considered a badge of honor! A Battle Scar!

Ok, SWMBO doesn't care if they're stained, and neither do I.

The issue is, the blood is more like a clot in the fabric.

If I can just get it down to a dark mark, I will be happier than swine in excrement.

Off to try the peroxide, will update later.

If the peroxide doesn't do it for you, try soaking it in Coca Cola.

If they are wool leave them out of the dryer at all.

Never tried it on wool, but isopropyl alcohol or gas line antifreeze works great for taking blood out of animal hides.

Thanks to all who helped...

The britches came out with a spot slightly darker than the surrounding area, but it is much better now...

I am glad somebody was able to help you remove blood from woll material.
I would have been happy to, but I can't even get blood out of a turnip.
