We recently got burglarized and my wife wants a holster so she can have her pistol on her when she's out gardening or playing in the yard with our 9mo old. We both have our CWPs and I carry daily. But she's never needed a holster because she went everywhere with her purse. However now that she's a stay at home mom working out in the yard she doesn't always have her purse on her like she used to.

A few years ago I did some fairly extensive research into lady holsters. I quickly realized two things 1) there aren't a lot of holsters out there made specifically for women and 2) because of women's shape holsters for men just don't work for women. I never could figure out exactly what to look for and how to know which type would be best for my lady. I need input here so I can get comfortable and confident for my upcoming holster purchase.

I'd like one that's feminine, leather, decorative stitching and whatnot (not interested in anything pink). Her carry gun is a S&W J640 with a 2" barrel. She's got the longer grip on it that accommodates all 4 fingers. Thanks for any and all advice.

A lady can be hard to find any holster that works due to shape. A hip holster is pointed in at the top poking her in the side due to hips shape. A shoulder holster there are appendages in the way of her getting to it. Maybe one of the tee shirts made to carry a handgun. Appendix carry in front might also work. Depending on climate maybe a belly band. My 340 has Brammi Hip grips on it, These do away with a need for a holster. Just tuck it in with the "ear" over the pants and go. Would help to know what her "daily dress" consists of also. Go to a few shops most will allow you to try the holsters "in house" around here they even have chairs so you can see how it feels sitting. Iused to carry IWB around 5 oclock but in my cars seat that was annoling after 5 mins so moved it to just behing Hip about 3 and was fine. Also keep in mind IWB is much more comfortable with pants 2" bigger in the waist, and she might not ike the bigger pants.

Going to have to tell my wife about this style....I like it! ....but if I send her down to my LGS I'm a bit worried about the "Fitting" process!

JW if you haven't already google up the website "cornered cat". I think it's still there. There's a lot of reading in it but by the end you'll know why you need to go there. Best information I've ever uncovered on this topic. Audie...the Oldfart..

That holster idea seems really ideal. Just curious, is your gf opposed to it for any reason?

If her preferred firearm is a 1849 Pocket Model, juggling caps and counting nipples can be a problem ...

My wife carries on her hip but I had to search the web to find a holster maker that makes them specifically for women. For most women their hips will force the handle into their side with a "normal" holster. It took awhile and cost more then any of my holsters but she loves it and wears it all day( 12 plus hours). I can not remember or find the name of the maker but it was not one of the big names in holsters and cost about 150.00 or so. Of course if you wife is like the woman in the utube vid you have more options.
