I agree, like them or not I always get a little sad when a living legend passes on. Be it George Jones , Dean Martin or Elvis. I can tell my grandkids that I was there. And yes there legend will live longer than we will.

Saw him a couple of years ago in Silver Springs Florida, what a show he put on. He announced his wife had straightened him out. Bought an autographed CD of his Greatest Hits. Know what I'll be listening to while in the shop.

A few months ago I saw him on a TV interview. He said he didn't want to record that song. He was convinced nobody'd buy it. "Too damned sad" he said. It turned out to be a classic though, and the one everyone including me thinks of first when George's name comes up.

What makes a great singer is his ability to accentuate musical variance with the song's phrases for emphatic punctuality. What makes a great song, real or imagined, is the resulting wave interaction between such a singer and the listener's internal rhythm at that moment. What gets ingrained into the "soul" is the synergism of the wave combinations, not the song or singer per se. ... felix

WOW, finally my thoughts put in to words; why I like to here other people sing!!!!
Mr. Felix, dude (actually Sir, since I respect 99% of what you write)! Now I know why just about every song I've heard in my life has meaning at some level.
I am not being facetious!
I love listening to all songs (except and other than rap).
I pray the Lord allows to having Mr. Jones sing him praises.

His music was what we listened to at my grandmothers, among others like Buck Owens, George Strait, Hank Williams, ect before she died, and all the family would get together for Sunday dinner. Brings back alot of good memories of a good time for all the family. He's a legend in my life and the worlds.

We went to a concert last night in DC. It was Sierra Hull and Mountain Heart. They were both great. Mountain Heart did a touching tribute to George Jones. When they sang "He Stopped Loving Her Today" it sounded like the old guy himself. Awesome night of music.
