It just occurred to me, I don't see much in the way of .243 cast boolits?

Does anyone shoot them?

I've got a 243 that may have to gobble a few up....

Have the 85 gr. Lyman Gc. and the95 gr. as well. The 85 shoots well in my three rifles, but the 95 gr. is to long for my rifling.

If you do a search from way back several of us shoot it. The 85 gr LY and the 95 gr RCBS seem to be the accuracy winners. Try to keep things in the 1500-2000 fps range. 2400 is a good powder for this size case. Gianni.

I have an extra SC Lyman 245496 (the 84gr loverin) and a small bag of gas checks (quantity unknown) I'd be happy to send you to get you started. May even have some cast and gas checked boolits if I do some digging.

I had a 243, and shot cast in it with respectable results, but ended up trading the rifle off a while back.

I shoot the Lyman in my 788, it weighs 90gr with gc and lube.
I tried a few powders and found IMR4198, 24gr, 2300fps was usable, 1" or less at 50 yds, when I went to 26gr, 2550fps,it went to hell, started spraying all over the place.
The lube was LBT soft blue, the alloy was water dropped wws, BHN 28.It is a really nice 100-150yd plinker, I really enjoyed busting clay pigeons at 100yds with it.

Thanks to Carpetman, I started using the RCBS 95 grain bullet in my Rem 788 x 243. 12.0 grains of 2400 has produced 100 yard accuracy of 1.25" and under very consistently, and is a superb varmint load at moderate distance. The 243 has been one of the bright spots in my cast boolit rifle work to date.

Some samples shooting with the Lyman 86 grain Loverin did fine work as well, and a recently-acquired mold of that design will get some use after things cool off around here.

Another thumbs up on the Ly. 245496 Loverin mold (mould?). My Ruger #1 is pretty accurate with it with 14gr. 15gr. H/IMR 4198 or AA XMP5744. 13gr. -14gr. WC 820 will also do in a pinch. However, the rifle never liked the 95gr. Ly. or ~100gr. RCBS bore riders at all.

What kind of alloy are you guys using. I've been playing with the 85 gr Loverin design and the RCBS 90 gr and can't get either to shoot workth a hoot from my encore. I've kept the velocities down but still get stripping with the loverin. My last bullets (RCBS) were 4/1- ww/lino.

dakotashooter2, Wheelweights + 1% Sn is generally what I use, but then I rarely push my CB's beyond 1,800fps. With Felix Lube, I've had the 87gr. Loverin up to 1,900fps with nary a trace of leading.

Dakotashooter2--

I use Taracorp, AKA 92/6/2 alloy, which is half Lino/half unalloyed lead. I also keep velocities down around 1600-1700 FPS. I have a test series loaded up to run things faster, mostly to learn at what point accuracy falls apart--or if it does so. I haven't taken the range time to run these yet, and I'll post results as soon as I have them.
