I received my Lyman 457122 Gould 330 gr HP molds today. Can't wait to start casting some boolits. I plan to load some light to medium loads for my Marlin 1895 with smokeless. I have some 45/45/10 and some Ben's red on hand. I'm waiting on a lubesizer die, so I might just do some 45/45/10 as cast and run with that. Lots of options. Been looking for one of these molds for a while. I don't expect to hot rod it.

I'll try my 50/50 wheel weight/pure lead allow first and see how that does. I figured for up to 1400 or so, it might work great, especially if I keep the powders slow.

Good going. Send us some photos of your bullets and a penetration/expansion test when you get to it.

Take care, Tom

I picked up one of these moulds at a gun show last year. It was used but in perfect condition and at a price that meant I couldn't leave it. It casts beautiful bullets and although it is a lot more fiddly to cast than my other, non-hollow point, .45/70 bullets I am switching to it almost excusively. I am using it in a Browning 1886. I simply looks proper!

Enjoy it!

Simon.

That is like the very first mold I bought. With proper placement it kills deer dead real quick like!

I think you will really like your mould. I bought mine used also. Be prepared to have a lot of rejects as it takes a while to get the mould hot. When it's almost ready, your tips might look like this:

When it is ready, they'll look like this, or maybe better

When they started dropping out nice, the lead thermometer read 775. I found that I had to fill the cavity quickly, and then dribbled the rest of the ladle off the top of the sprue plate back into the pot. Don't spend a lot of time admiring your work until you are finished.

Here are some sized and lubed with White Label 2500+

I cast about 100 this evening. Had a lot of rejects but cast a few good ones too. Kept temp at 700 which might have been a little on the cool side. No wrinkles after mold was warm but nose/hollow point wasn't fully filled out. Will try a hotter alloy next time. Thanks for the tip.
