I would shot this bullet in a single shot rolling block with 1/10 twist.

Anyone with experience with this bullet.

Bill, this is Joel C. I don't know much about that mould, but the one I borrowed from you is awesome. Those little gems just fall out of the mould. I casted about 200 of them, sizing and lubing half with gc and the other without. I haven't tried the Lyman mould yet, but I'm sure it's a winner too.:-D I'll be out tomorrow morning at Dietz's trying out the "soup can". Hope you find the info. you need about the mould in question. By the way, I made a top punch that works great. Take care and have a great Labor Day. :castmine:

311334 was designed for the Krag rifle and is a good bullet. My version from the early 70's cast a tad small (.299) on the nose and it has a long nose.

In my 30 cal mold collection I consider it to be a second tier bullet, giving accuracy slightly less than my first tier molds.

The first tier molds are 311291, 311284, 311467, 311466 and 165 RCBS Sil.

311334 should do well in your rifle, althought it might not be deliver the best accuracy possible. It is a bullet mold worth owning and a bullet worth shooting.

I have two copies of that design, and like Chargar, both of mine cast .299 or under on the nose. Not surprising, accuracy in U.S. cal .30's has been less than satisfactory. It does seem a good candidate for the Swiss 7.5, or if you have a modern European "tight bore" .30 cal tube. Some one of these days when I get the time, I will lap one of the moulds out to get a full bore rider. My "go-to" mould for the 30-30 is the 311291 (I don't own any lever guns).

Resp'y,
Bob S.

Centex Bill,

I've used this bullet in 308 and 30-06 (1/10 twists) with very good results. Like Charger and Bob S's moulds mine was also small on the nose and I honed out the ogive of my mould years ago, before I learned about Beagling a mould.

I have not used 311334 in a 30-30 as I only have a Winchester Model 94. I see no reason it should not work just fine in your single shot 30-30.

If you are not familiar with "Beagling" go to http://www.castpics.net/index.htm and select "Articles by Members" and then select "Bullet Diameter Enlargement"

I would recommend you go ahead and get the mould and if it's nose is a little small Beagle the nose up a bit to where it's just engraved on the nose by the origin of the lands and try it.

You can find some loads for 190 grain bullets for 30-30 at;

Have Fun,

Centex Bill.... A couple of more thoughts...

1) I have three 30-30 leverguns, one 30-30 bolt gun and one 30-30 single shot. The single shot is a Browning Traditional Hunter and has some quirks vis-a-vi the bolt and leverguns.

The prime quirk, is the single shot lacks any caming power on the bolt/block to engrave the bullet nose on the rifling. All you have is your thumb. With anything like a hard bullet (#2 or so) it is very difficult to chamber a round that requires the bullet nose to engrave any depth at all.

So while I dote on bullets with .302 or so nose diameters, nothing larger than .300 chambers easy on this rifle. I had Buckshot make me a .300 nose size die, so I can brings the bullet noses down for use in this rifle.

Keep this in mind when dealing with cast bullets in 30-30 single shot rifles.

My Browning SS 30-30 is an easy MOA rifle with cast bullet when the loads are put together right.

2) Centex was a small company that made and sold jacketed rifle bullets back in the 50's and early 60's.

I have a handful of bullets left from the 311334 mold I bought years ago . Somebody wanted that type and I sold it , not that it was a bad one , just I have a LBT mold that is better .

Currently , I'm using it in a brand new 11-42 Springfield barrel on an 03 and at thirty yard it makes one hole with three shots . Load is 11.2 grains of Universal clays in a HXP case and a WLR primer .

I have used it with enough AAC 2520 powder to run a Garand action and it worked as well as service ball ammo .

I used to use nearly a case full of IMR 4831 in a .308 case in a Remington 788 and it worked pretty well too .

All of those were one in ten twists . So far I have not tried it in a 30-30 , just haven't got to it .
