It's a converter that lets you shoot pellets in hand guns and rifles and is charger by a 209 primer without powder. http://convert-a-pell.com

I had a couple of those for .38 Special, until someone took a tote from the back of my truck in the 5 min it took me to run in and out of the LGS.
They worked great, lots of fun.

shotgun primers seem to be readily avail. still.

Years ago we used to drill out the primer pocket of 22 hornet cases and use the other size (now long discontinued) shotgun primer behind a 22 pellet in our hornets for plinking.

Forget what the old discontinued shotgun primer number was, but I saved my last three or four sleeves of 100 primers just as a memento. They're somewhere in my boxed up gun room stuff.

I don't see the point. If one cast his own, the primer is the most expensive component a lot of the time.

I have a similar set-up for the 223. It works great for about 4 shots then the barrel has to be brushed to remove the primer fouling. I shot about 10 rounds with one cleaning then it took me days to remove all of the primer fouling. Maybe different brands of primers would not do this but this was CCI.

I have air rifles that will push heavy lead pellets faster then them. I was just wondering if any of you seen them I thought it was kind of interesting.

My boxes of 38 & 44 read HERTERS and still work great.

The old primer size was 157 and was for Remington hulls and 410 I believe. Tim

Why?
With those you can quietly (relatively) shoot in the house.
I've loaded .22 lead pellets over a primer in .223 cartridges. Fun, but no accuracy.

For .22 caliber, these are/were great.

CCI made/makes a quiet cartridge.

I suppose If I ever get the urge to shoot in the house, I would likely buy some sort of air gun, instead of burning up primers, unless I feel the need for the house to smell like burn't primers. lol

I made one for my 223 contender barrel, something to play with in the cellar.

I used to take a block of Gulfwax paraffin (in your store's canning supplies) and let it warm in the sun, then take a primed rifle case, push the neck into the block of wax, and Voila!, a nifty little 'across the room' practice round which was also good for encouraging chickens to get off the steps.

Never thought of using shotgun primers because they were more expensive than rifle primers back when I did this.

Way back when I was single, I used to do that, and shoot in the bathroom. Tiles make great aiming points. Until one cracks. Oops.

I made some from a old pellet gun barrel for 44 sp/mag. they are very short barrel wise and a .117 pellet is destroyed by a 209 primer. However pushing a lead BB shot into it is impressive. I cut the barrel into many pieces then turned them on a lathe to fit my Bull dog cylinder . When i figured the cost per shot i quit shooting them!

I bought one for 6" 357 revolver before I started reloading.
mine uses SPP, and came with 6 specially machined cartridges.
I used Lead BB's
It's a great way to get in lots of trigger time "in the house" with a full sized revolver.

I have several Hammond Game Getters that use a 22 Ramset blank to push a round ball. .

I have drilled 22 hornet and 223 cases to accept a shot shell primer and used air rifle pellets in those.

This my own little qurk, but I just don't like doing business with someone that will not print the prices. You have to call and listen to a sales pitch to get the price and listen and listen. No thanks!

Yeh! I noticed that too. Checked out the Web site but no prices. Not even ballpark! That is annoying. I lost interest fast.

They are not cheap.
If I recall correctly, I think I paid $60ish... for the 6" rifled brass tube with rubber orings that fit in my 357 mag revolver, and the 6 custom machined brass cartridges. That was 1995 I think ?

Made these years ago for indoor practice with my 45-120. You need to choose the pellets carefully as som shoot the skirts off with shotgun primers. I had better luck with the ones made for a regular LR primer. They were a little harder to load but shot all pellets and were more accurate. I turned mine from scrps of cut off 22 barrel or liner scraps. In 22 CF cases just drill out the primer hole and seat a pellet in the case mouth.
