Yes I did it!
I went out and bought a new 45-70.
Now I would like to know what boolet works best in it.
The gun is a Marlin 1895.

I shoot a 420gr. bullet from NEI mold #337.It has a big flat nose and shoots very well in my gun.I load it with 45gr. of RL-7and CCI-200primers.The recoil isn't bad but there is room to go up if you wish.I don't have a chronograph to check but the books show a speed of about 1700fps.The older Lyman books have a huge amount of load data for the 45/70 from light to heavy in all bullet weights.

I am shooting the RCBS 405 grain flat nose, gas checked with 47 grains of h322. good accuracy not to bad on the shoulder.

FWIW.

have a good one,
