Got a message yesterday to pick up some stuff at lunch:mrgreen:

66939

Lyman 450
One full and one partial box of 30 cal gas checks
.309 sizer die
approx. 25 lbs. of boolits suitable to be melted (dirty from storage)
Lyman 4 cavity 452460
Lee 140 swc plain base 2 cavity
Lee 158 swc g.c. 2 cavity
Lyman 356242 two cavity - rusty
Lyman 452389 two cavity - rusty
set of small block handles

Good news is that both Lyman 2 cavities cleaned up very nice with a couple of treatments of navel jelly. The mold faces are spotless and free of any pitting.

The bad news is that one of the bags contains boolits cast from a Lyman 311465,......... which came from a borrowed mold. I was real excited for a couple of minutes. Darn the luck.:coffee:

Some people wonder why I suck up the owner, this is why.:p

Darrell

ps - tomorrow I should be getting the melting pot and 50-60 lbs of lead which is about half linotype. Please don't hate me., but if you do I understand.

The owner of the store used to shake his head when I talked about shooting lead in my guns. He is big into quality 1911's and did'nt believe that lead could be shot in them. One day I handed him a can of Lee 200 gr. RNFP and said "just try them".

One of the ways I keep him happy is to keep him supplied with those Lee boolits as he is a true convert now, amazed that lead can shoot as well as jacketed. When I picked up these molds and saw that Lyman I asked if he would be wanting some of them. He just nodded with a grin on his face. I gotta keep him happy. Sorry.:violin:

Yeah, that '389 is hard to beat if your 1911 will feed it! Mine drops out of the mould at about 185 gr, making recoil that much milder.

I hesitate to say what the cost was. I mentioned that I have to keep him supplied with boolits to shoot,.....I will just leave it at that.[smilie=1:

The two rusty molds cleaned up real nice but need a little more TLC before they are operational. One has a bent sprue plate and neither one will close completely. Gonna have to work on the alignment pins a little and alignment in general. Both are in good enough shape that the time spent should be well worth it.
