I just acquired a Sedgley Springfield barreled action in 22 Hornet. Still have to build a stock but that can come after hunting season.
Any recommendations on a GC mould that works well for the Hornet? Bore slugs at .2235. Have to be ready when the stock gets built.

Thanks.

Lyman 225415 worked very well in my BRNO Hornet over 5gr of 800X for 1900fps.

I have used the Lyman 225415 in my Ruger #3 Hornet that has been rechambered to .221 Fireball with excellent results. My edible small game load and target practice is 4.0 grs of Unique. In the Hornet case, 3.0 grs will do nicely. This is an excellent bullet.

Most Hornets are made with a relatively slow twist. Short, lightweight bullets will do better because of this.

YMMV

Dale,

What about the T/C 1:12 twist? Do you think it will stabilize the Saeco #221 60 grain?

Thanks guys. Not sure how many options there really are yet but that si encouraging information. Best.

Jon;
1 in 12 twist should stabilize most any practical .22 bullet. Typical Hornet twist is 1 in 16 and will not properly stabilize some of the longer .22 bullets.

Stocker::

The 225415 Lyman design works great for the hornet. It is probably one of the best of the cast bullets in that caliber. I have been shooting this bullet design in my hornet for many years. 4-5 grains of Unique, will handle anything you want to tackle up to Deer sized game. Like any other bullet, you got to put it in right place and you will never have a problem.....:Fire:

My vote would be for the Lyman 225438 or the NEI45. Both shoot very well in my '43 Winchester (16" twist).

The issue I find with the 225415 is that the newer version makes bullets that are longer & heavier (55 grs.) as compared to the older 225415 (48 grs.). The older version shoots well in my rifle. The newer version....not so well.

Either the Lyman 225415 or the 225438 should work well in the Hornet.

Size at .224" and Lil Gun is an excellent Hornet powder.

Use small pistol primers for best accuracy./beagle

This is a pet peeve of mine. When a company materially changes the design of a bullet they should also change the mould number. People who have some long time experience make recommendations in good faith regarding specific bullets, the design gets changed and nobody is the wiser until they open the package. Not Good!! Everybody ends up with egg on their face. Doesn't have to happen, either.:roll:

AH HA! So that's why my 225415 drops at 47gr yet the book says 55gr.
