Hi EveryBody: I am ready to Load my 1st batch of BOOLITS, (45 acp., round nose, 230 grain, Lee mold). My pour went GREAT, I tumble lubed some of them with Alox and some with 45/45/10, resized to .452, tumble lubed again, let my soldiers, (boolits) dry a couple days. My question is: What powder charge do you recommend? I am using Winchester 231 powder. Also, what OAL do you like. I am shooting in a Springfield Tactical 5 inch barrel. I have looked at the Cast Boolit load data page, and Lymans Cast Bullet 4th Edition book which gives me an idea however, I really like information from the horses mouth, you experts out there that are living this hobby. I really Appreciate the info.

i'm usually around 5 grs with the 231.

for the oal you are going to have to set your own.
make a dummy round with just enough of the flair taken out to chamber the boolit.
plunk it in the barell.
re-seat the boolit until it drops in.
take the flair out of the case gently
then feed it from the magazine and observe how it comes out of the chamber.
now make two dummy rounds and feed them from the magazine by hand not by dropping the slide. looking for smooth function, ejection, and feeding.
there you go.
now load a few and try them at the range.

Put this link in your "favorities". NEVER take load advice off a forum until you know who you are dealing with. You will find idiots on the internet. r5r is OK. Others here are too. But you only need one moron to ruin your day.

There is NO reason not to use a published load for most of our reloading. Stay safe.

r5r makes a good point.

Even a respected handloader who we may "trust" can make a keying error. 5.8 becomes 8.5 or 20.5 becomes 25.0. In some cases, that will cause a KaBoom!!!!

Always use or at lest check recommended data against published loads. Here is another site:
