Steve Miller, Executive Director of Youth Shooting Sports Alliance, emailed me to state ATK Ammunition recently announced that 10 million .22 target cartridges have been allocated to the BSA for distribution at a special cost, and that the BSA is determining how this ammo will be allocated among the Councils.

So any Boyscout groups looking for ammo might want to check with BSA Headquarters.

On the down side for the rest of us that's 10 million rounds that won't make it to retail. Good that the junior programs get it first, they are our future.

I am assuming most of it if not all will go to council camps. That helps introduce many kids to shooting.

Great! That's where I learned to shoot. Kudos to ATK. I'm sure many summer camp rangemasters are breathing a bit easier now.

We have the same issue for hunters safety locally (I'm an instructor.). A few local hoarders have graciously offered to sell it to us for $75 per brick. We're going to end up donating out of our personal supply.

That's really good news especially given the tough times. 10 million rounds is a lot of shooting.

Thank You ATK. Nothing more important than keeping the youth properly instructed and shooting for the future.

Tell the hoarders to go shove it someplace! :takinWiz: Hope none of their kids are in the programs. If they are, they can you their parents $75 brick ammo. While the rest of the kids use the donated ammo.

Sorry for the hijack but, the hoarders really get me steamed!

National jamboree is also this year. Those kids will go through a ton by themselves, and more power to them.

I had one parent who I thought was going to start talking about his stash, but he pulled the ripcord at the last minute. We had a parent last year go on a rant about how he shouldn't have to pay for licenses, its his god given right, etc. He shut up real quick when we reminded him that his son was taking a class funded out of that money which only costs him $10 and that he hunts public land.
