Hey fellas,

1st cast last night, very happy with the mold's ease of use. I was casting real nice boolits within 15 min.

They are weighing in all at around 265g... is this an alloy problem?

no don't worry about it casting heavier that listed
alot of production molds do not cast the way they should
you are correct though it may spit out different weights with different alloys
just cast with what you have and shoot

well I would say it's not a problem.
if you used rcbs's 10 pounds of lead to 1 pound of tin alloy your weight would be closer.
but I doubt you are gonna do that, so you have the weight you have.

and since you are gonna start at the low end of the load data and work up the load for accuracy and safety anyway it's not that big of a deal.

I've been using a Hornaday loading data book that lists an 800x load for .44 spl. I have a large supply of this powder, so I'm hoping to find a moderate load that will do well enough for practice. The chart doesn't list a load for a weight beyond 240g however.

Any suggestions?

If you used the same exact alloy at the same exact temperature, your bullets would come closer to factory specs. I cast some bullets that are heavier than mold specifications and load them at what they are "supposed" to be, ie.; 250 gr. bullet comes out 258, but I still use 250 data, but keep away from max. loads, usually keeping near starting load data...

800-x is a good stable powder.
it is hard to meter though.
I would just work with the 240 data and not be overly concerned.
I use 10 grs of 800-x with my 429241 I don't know what they weigh i'm sure more than 240 though..
