My friend bought one. He found some brass and I loaded my 440 gr boolit in 10 cases just to try the gun out. It shot super but we did shoot fairly close. After a few shots he put his glove on. He also hits higher then I do because of recoil but still did good.
Recoil---YES but it was OK. We tore up an empty propane bottle.
I cast a bunch of my boolits for him and even found a mold I made for 470 gr boolit so I made them too. He has to lube them, bring them here to be sized .501 and load them.
Action and trigger is great. Seen two cases with a double primer strike but the gun locked back up with no danger of doubling.
More gun then I need but I like it.

Never shot the 500, but love shooting my buddies 460. Nice guns..

If I ever move up I think it'll be to a 50 Cal.......probably not a 500 S&W though. Glad you had fun!!!

My wife likes her 8 3/8" S&W.

This one has about a 6-1/2" barrel without the large under barrel lug. Looks more like a big 29. Gas ports are in the top of the shroud, no extra muzzle pieces. I will get a picture next week.
One thing I seen is the cylinder stop notches are all the way at the rear of the cylinder. I do not remember where the last gun I shot had them.

Hers has the huge brake and kicks about like a hot .357 with a fast 350 jacketed bullet.

Not this bugger, it is a pretty light gun yet can be controlled. The trigger is superb. Not one to shoot 100 rounds at a time.

The trigger on hers is what made her want it.

I handed it to her while I was recording the serial number and she didn't want to give it back!

So much for selling that one!

I really like my JRC 500. What load were you shooting? Last I heard John Ross was running a special through this website, on them. My next 500 will probably be a FA Wyoming Express.

The loads I made were a Sierra 350gr jacketed hollow point over 41gr H110 with a CCI200 rifle primer. I have a LOT of rifle primers, but not many large pistol and knew these were going to be shot close for fun, so I didn't waste my Fed155s.

I also made some 440gr plain base boolits that I cast from a Mountain Mold over 9gr of Trailboss for the wife to "warm up with" so she would realize that this thing is not that bad. We both agreed that the trailboss load was no more and maybe less than a .38WC load from her 4" M28 and that the above load was similar to a hot 158gr load in the same gun.

I kind-of want a John Ross gun, just not bad enough to pay what he wants for them.

Well who wouldn't want a custom from Ross, Linebaugh or any of the custom artists out there.............:Fire:. A few weeks back though I was shooting one of my Rugers and with a 1" group it takes me back to reality and the fact that my bank account wouldn't handle the hit.

John Ross's version isn't really a custom. Just a special run through the Performance Center that he spec'd out.

No disrespect meant at all, but I wouldn't lump it in with Bowen, Linebaugh - true artists - when it is basically a well put together factory gun.

And I also will add that his price is actually very fair, I just don't want one bad enough to part with the money.

I have a .500JRH, a .475, and now a .500S&W and a couple .44s, a .45 Ruger, etc. You can only shoot so many at a time!

Yeah, you will have a hard time shooting better then a S&W or BFR anyway. Next is the Ruger with most doing as good.
Only so much you can do with a revolver except make them pretty and expensive.
I just loaded with 36 gr of 296 and a CCI 200 primer using the 440 gr boolit.
It will make as many tater furrows as you need!
My friend got this S&W for $1100. He works as an aircraft mechanic and his wife makes more then he does so he has spending money. For me to buy a custom would mean I would have to sell half of what is in my safe but will it shoot better then my BFR's?
I never shot a custom that was even a tiny bit better. To me a gun can be rusty as long as the bore is perfect, it can have scratches on it from use. If it shoots, nothing else matters. I love rubber grips, no need for ivory except to show it off. I love real wood with grain but the stuff hurts on the big guns.
The only thing I care about is accuracy and I don't care if an old baseball bat or tire was used for the grips.
