I did my first smelting session this weekend. As I removed the lead to fill ingots, my lead turned a light green color on top. Is this normal? The lead was pure sheet from x-ray room walls. I fluxed the pot 3 times, first with used motor oil, second with sawdust and wood paint stirrer, 3rd time with wax. I really skimmed the top, and kept getting dross on top of the melt. Is this normal? I did search, but didn't find what I was looking for. Thanks.

The slight different color tints is normal have seen gold, bluish, greenish and yellow think most of it is in the make up of the wheel weights them selves and slight variation in temperatures.

Well, since its from an x-ray room a light green glow is to be expected, right?

Sorry, couldn't resist.:Fire:

It was pure lead, not wheel weights. The green left a residue around the bottom of my dutch over and on my ladle.

just oxidation of lead in contact with air, normal. same thing has shown up on all my pure lead smelts.

I got blue alloy when I mixed some 50/50 solder with WWs.
