OK, I just recieved 22cal GC's and a bunch of other GC's, but I'm just talking about the 22 cal in rationing.

My question is this:

Should I attempt to 'ration' them so everone can get a piece of the pie?

or just toss them out there and let anyone get any amount they want?

I can still get them, it's not like they aren't making them anymore.

It just takes a few months instead of a few weeks to get them.

Tell me what you think or what you would do?

Put them on the market and let people buy whatever they want.

I ration, if you care to look at my sales page it"s closed and I limit the orders to 500pcs. If someone ships me brass to convert the skies the limit. I have to put limits on orders and have told a couple of folks that there 4K piece order just ins't going to happen, I had to spread it out with the parent case being so hard to find at a reasonable price.

I would say it depends on how you intend to price them. If you price them at "regular" prices then you should consider rationing them or you will just be the "wholesaler" to the first gouger that comes along. I would suggest 1 box per caliber because 1000 gas checks would last a normal shooter.

On the other hand if you are charging all the market will bear then go ahead and stick it to the gouger and maybe he will end up getting stuck with them.

no I plan to charge the same as always, my cost has not gone up so neither will yours.

Spread them around DJ....keep everyone shooting. Those of us that WILL need them eventually but not right away can have you order with the next order. I have pretty much always done it that way.

Is the demand really that much higher for 22 vs 30, 35 and 44?

If you value my two cents, I am a capitalist: let the market decide.

You are the boss. It's your business how you do it. I don't need any, so I really don't have a dog in the fight. Spread the wealth or first come, first served, just how you look at free enterprise. A lot of people are going to have to change their habits because of all this. It's going to blow over, just a matter of how long it is going to take. Who are you going the make the maddest? The greedy or those that accept that maybe they should slow down for a while?

Whatever you decide, I'd like 1000 of the 22 cals please.

Spread them around so people that recently bought a 22-250 and a new mold can start reloading for it!! -Brad

Blammer- I make and sell aluminum gas checks. I have had a few of my buddies ask why i don't just blow them out and sell a bunch.. For me I have to make them and don't want to be tied to the punch press all day after work. The small quantities I sell each week are enough. I can keep ahead and if something comes up it's no big deal. For your business I would think a reasonable limit on checks would be OK. If a guy is ordering 10k at a time that keeps a few other guys from trying out your fine product.. I would think 5k at a time would be a reasonable limit for each caliber??

I agree with Gbrown, you're the boss, you do what you think best. However, I must add that I have been looking for 22 gas checks because I have three 22 cal group buy moulds on order. I would like to have a thousand to use when the moulds start to arrive. What ever you do, I will live with.

The smart thing to do is spread them around so in the future you have more customers to give repeat sales to. A single sale of 10k ensures he never buys again. 10 sales of 1k means you have 10 future customers.

HAHAHA ohboy....
I bought 7-k last year at this time because I had about 3-k on hand, and needed 10-k 30 cal at the same time.
as soon as DJ makes up his mind on amounts I will be ordering a bunch
[@10-k] of the 22's because I have fewer than 500 on hand now.

Are you in business to make profit or to get pats on the back? Do you want to deal with customers that think they are entitled to certain prices?

Price should be your rationing tool. Economics 101.

How about both?

Put up a notice that "We are all friends and gentlemen here. Order what you NEED for the next couple of months, but realize that your friends may NEED some too. I will be placing another order. If you would like a large quantity, let me know. I will accept pre-orders and order specifically for your needs."

That way, hopefully, everyone can be covered.

DJ has been doing this for us here for awhile now. He is a very stand up guy in all respects. Personally i would like to thank DJ for the time he spends doing this for us. Any decision he makes i know we as family will all stand behind him.

While I don't do a lot of rifle shooting, I do really like the Gator checks from DJ. Don't need any
right now, but if it were me, I would attempt to spread them around. That way, more guys get some, at least. Then, we can all go shooting. Mike

Right now, at regular price you are just as likely to sell them all 1K at a time as 10 K at a time. The only difference is a little more packaging time on your end. I agree with not feeding the gougers but if you have repeat customers who always order quantity they might be an exception to limits. You could go new customers 1K , old customers 5k or something like that........

Thanks for the suggestions and support.

I put them on the GB login per usual at the usual price with the usual shipping.

I humbly ask that you try to not be greedy on your order. If you want more than 10,000 of any one caliber PM me and I'll order special for you.

thanks guys.

I would say ration them and keep the prices the same as you intend. You might make a mint in the short term selling them all at once, and you'd only have few shipments to make. But, alienating the greater remainder of your customers might cost you in the long run.

Just for general information...while DJ sells them at a profit it is a precious little gain to him. Count his time involved and I'd probably consider it a wash. It's mostly done as a service as is apparent in his original question and the fact that the prices aren't raised dramatically. I have no doubt if he moved them all to Ebay they would sell quickly at 3 times his price. He's a class act guys......oh....and DJ.....I need 6.8 million of them....lmao

Guess it's your call. All you need to decide is if you're in the selling business or the supplying business. What kind of GC's, BTW?

Have you updated the available inventory in the group buy order system?

Blacksmith
04-07-2013, 11:41 AM
I just had another thought. How about a sliding scale of prices. Just reverse the way it usually works instead of a discount for ordering greater quantities the price increases with the size of your order. That way you would find out how much the gougers intend to sell for. For example if it was bricks of .22's one brick $20, two $30 each, three $40 each, and so on so 10 bricks would be $110 each or $1100 per case. I'll bet they won't sell many bricks at a profit if they are buying them at prices like that.

I ordered 7000 from you and paid up front it was about a 5-6 week waiting time no big deal next time ill pay you up front and allow 2 months waiting time that way it allows you plenty of time to fill my order . let people have what they want if folks want them in large amounts ( 5000 + ) they should order them well in advance so as not to bother your stock tks ken
