A year ago my friend Bryan had not shot a cast bullet out of a rifle nor done any reloading.

He has come a VERY LONG WAY with his understanding of shooting, casting and reloading in one year.

Last week he cast his 1st 30 cal. Lee 200 gr. RN plain base bullets from HIS mold, with HIS homemade ladle, HIS push thru Lee .311 sizing die, HIS lube, HIS pan lubing system , HIS 30 cal. Kake Cutter , HIS reloading equipment.

He shot this today at 50 yards with a 6 X scope. ( That is a 1" red aiming square )

You should have seen the smile on his face ! !

Good for him. Its quite gratifying to know you can do what the big boys do when it comes to accurate ammunition

Outstanding, you will probably have to use surgery to get that smile off his face.

sweet.

man that is a long way to come in a year.
from about nothing to bug holes like that and with some hand made equipment lots of persistence and effort.
that shows character [and some good mentoring ]
looks like the rifle is up to it too.

And people wonder why I always say a mentor is the best way to learn.

Yes, with Bryan looking over my shoulder when I did it.
Then, I handed him the mold and said....." It is yours ..enjoy it ! "

Very good job Ben. You have really positively impacted another's life. Very good indeed.

I don't think Ben realizes what an impact he has. A year or so ago I thought the only way to have fun was to kill something. Now i had rather go to the range and see what kind of group i can get, come back and reload, try it again. Thanks to Ben for the time and patience he has given me along the way. I also enjoy all the comments on this site. Bryan

When it seems to be getting too easy to hit the target, start by putting the target at a greater distance and making it smaller.

Doc :

It isn't getting too easy.........as a matter of fact, it has been a pretty big challenge to get to this point.

One of Bryan's friends said...........

" Most people Bryan's age are showing photos of their grand kids, Bryan shows everyone photos of the groups he has fired with cast bullets."

It is truly amazing what a man can do (especially with a good friends help).

"pics of his groups" :D

I'm guessing 1,250 fps or so.....?

Anyone else with a different opinion.

Bryan cast these .30 cal. Lee , 200 gr. plain base bullets today.

Looks to me like he is doing pretty well !

These are sized .311" and lubed with Ben's Red.

Why doesn't he use Bryan's Blue? Or is lube making his next lesson?

Ben, he is truly leased to have a friend like you. I also get a feeling you feel blessed to have the opportunity to help him.

A mentor is the best way to learn. I am glad you guys found each other.

You are right, I am blessed to have a friend like Bryan.
I really do enjoy seeing Bryan cast his own now and shoot good groups.

It has all been very rewarding for me.

I still contend that all of us " Old Timers " better be getting young people interested in reloading , bullet casting and the shooting sports - - ASAP !

When the govt. decides to take away your 2nd Amend. rights ( It seems that the current Adm. is in high gear on that very thing right now ) , if it doesn't matter much to you, you are not going to be willing to fight to keep it preserved and protect it.

We just might be one generation away.......

That Ben I why I introduce as many as possible to the shooting sports. I have taken at least 10 people to the range from work who had previously never fired a handgun.
Show them responsible gun ownership and it can change how they vote on the issue.
