............Went in to reply to a PM and clicked 'send' and it locked up. Had to cntrl, alt, del to get out, and had to reload all over. Tried it 3 times. Same thing. No changes made to my system. Will try it on my PC at home later this AM.

Buckshot, that's what was happening to me last week, and Deputy Al, also.
Just a small glitch, hopefully. I know Willy said he was looking for a new server, and I don't know if that would help or not.
What scares me, if we get a new server, we may all have to switch to another page again, along with all the signing in, and all that fun, frustrating stuff. We've just finally caught up to where we were on the previous site, member wise!

I don't want to switch servers again either, but we caught up membership on this one astronomically fast. I'm not having a pm problem. Right everything is running smooth for me. Are you and Buckshot running Explorer for your browser? I'm not, I'm running Firefox. Ever since I switched to Firefox I don't have anymore hijacking adware and haven't gotten any pc viruses. Explorer really sucks for that crap although they say they are trying to take care of it. If the new Netscape didn't have a Netscape spy bug in it, that you agree to when you agree to load Netscape, I would have switched to it because it's suppose to be the best of both worlds Explorer and Firefox combined.

I'm not sure how it could be locking up on you. When you click send, you might just have to wait a few seconds for it to transmit through. how long did you wait after hitting send?
Sorry if I caused confusion on the new server issue. Nothing will change as far as membership names, site names or anything at all. Everything is and will always be the same as far as that goes. It's just, the computer that is hosting this site will be upgraded for better and faster performance. You could log on now, post a reply, come back after the upgrade and everything will be just as you left it (just faster performace). Does that make sense? Sorry for the confusion there.

Joe, I tried firefox for a few months, and didn't like it. It seemed to have a mind of it's own at times, so down the electron flusher it went.

I've been using Mozilla project Firefox and have gotten to like it right well. It does not work the same as IE ---- but that is to be expected I guess considering its roots.
Netscape>Mozilla Open Source>Firefox is its pedigree path, it is open source freeware that is administered by the Mozilla project and is not pay-me software at all but is put out as a labor of love by a lot of programmer type folks who are trying to prove they really can make software that is easy to use.
And it is. You just gotta get IE out of your head and "think Mozilla". Literally, this stuff is Linux software that has gotten so adherent to the common internet HTML rules that it can now run on ANY PLATFORM (and I do mean any platform). That is the future path of of good open source software, so adherent to the web standards that the same stuff runs on any platform. Firefox proves that it is possible and feasible.
Firefox is the fastest growing browser there is right now, with the best add-ins of anybody out there. Just slightly different in its approach to things compared to MS IE ....
One Firefox add-in that I particularly like is Ad-Blocker -- it works REAL good. I currently use a freebie net email address that tries to pay for itself by blasting me with ads and ad-wares every time I log into check my free e-mail. Firefox with Add-Blocker simply turns them off as soon as they try to start up (once I tell it that it is ad or adware that one first time, anyway).
I get me a nice little private, quiet e-mail box for free .... 100% free, quiet and peaceful. Nothing there but my mail.
This "open source" software is great stuff, you really can take a old PC and load it up with an entire world of no-cost software that will run blazingly fast on that older hardware.
Software that gets fixed whenever somebody sees a bug in it (like real fast, they actually fixed Firefox for the first set of bugs this past last week or so -- all 3 bugs--all fixed up so they simply aren't there any more). In contrast, each version of IE comes with HUNDREDS of known errata that never seem to get fixed, ever. It just gets replaced with the next, even more bloated IE version next year.
==============================================
Now, let me stroke the crystal ball a bit for a 5 year forcast .....
Playing games on the PC is the only real excuse that Microsoft operating systems has to exist any more (MSOffice can be run on Linux just fine BTW if you MUST have MSOffice). The little square game boxes are quickly taking over gaming though, so that excuse is going away real fast. Soon you will have a modern current game box and a older vintage PC for internet/office type stuff usage. And a cell phone, kiss your Ma Bell goodbye if you haven't already. Freeware SKYPE for long distance telephony over the internet is the final death knell for the Ma Bells (brought to you by the Napster crowd, fer 100% freekin free of course -- call another freeware SKYPE user anywhere in the world for NOTHING and talk just as long as you want).
Soon, you will be able to take any running PC of any vintage you own and run it using a free operating system and stock it with free software -- all by your ownself as you will finally have some "Windows-like" ease of use in this new open source software.
The only thing that keeps you "loyal" to Microsoft right now is not knowning any better, lazyness and inertia. Plus the MS stuff is well-hidden in the cost of the new PC you just bought ($300 extra cost at last estimate). Wally World will sell you a much cheaper version of the same PC right now from their website loaded with Non-Microsoft stuff, as will HP, IBM, Dell, ect etc. However, they must shelf-stock the MS pre-loaded stuff in adherence to their MS contractual obligations ....
You just gotta ask for it (and be willing to understand it a bit).

I should have posted again on 8-7 that 45Nut sent me a test, and I was able to reply to it immediately????? In fact he sent me the test message and I replied to it maybe 15 minutes after making my initial post. Who knows? I sure don't. With these computers if it works I'm in fat city. If it doesn't, well.................

Ah Brian remembers -- I miss that special little board and the company that made it. Microsoft intentionally hired away all their best programmers and then ran them out of business. One of many casual abuses of monopoly type power that Microsoft has done over the years.
Now, archiving your software is and always has been legal. But since they killed PC Tools as a company nobody will give you a hardware/software solution to archiving copy locked CDs and DVDs.
So, all that kind of "individualistic energy" has gone into developing alternatives to Microsoft itself .... the Linux world and the new open source "any platform" softwares like Firefox.
Firefox is a bigger threat to Microsoft than you know -- if a whole crop of similar free "run anywhere free softwares" grow up around the idea then MS itself becomes non-vital. Do you know what Open Office is ?? -- yep, think MS office except it doesn't cost you a dime.
The company I currently draw a check from is putting in Red Hat Fedora Linux (freeware based) shop floor systems right now. Why? Because it doesn't break & shut itself down all the time -- it just keeps on running shift after week after month. They are doing it for stone reliablility reasons, not cost.

Willy, I type a PM, then click to send it. It does not go so I click it again. Then I get "program not responding" and the computer locks up. Then I have to shut down and start over again.

I have a software program that will copy the copy locked CD's and DVD's. In fact my son bought Battelfied 2 and you have to have the number one disc in the pc to play the game. So I loaded my software and copied the number one disc and am playing it on my pc.

If that ever happens, just let it sit for a minute or two and it will finally transfer.

..........Well it happened AGAIN early Saturday AM, in the wee hours. Trying to make a reply to a PM. I had THREE (3) browsers open and locked up! Type in the reply, hit submit and "Clank"! Locked up.
I restarted the computer, went to PM's and made a NEW message to the member PM'ing me and the mssg took. Tried to send a reply to the other members PM, again (4th time) and it locked up.
I can work around it anyway, by cut and pasting and originating a new message BACK to the original.
