Hey guys I was doing some random thinking and thought of a question and was thinking someone here would be able to answer. I have a source to buy powder coating paint very cheap but the only color I can get is white. The question is, would I be able to mix anything into the paint to change the color (ie. food coloring) and other things for my wife (ie glitter)? If so what is good and what is bad?

Thanks all!

How cheap is cheap? Harbor Freight powder is $5 a pound. I think they sell red white yellow and flat black. If you bought some flat black and mixed is with the white you'd get a semi gloss grey or something like that. Could be interesting

I do not think typical additives like food coloring will work . There are some special ingredients made for pc you can add, but the price may not make it worth it. Ebay has some very good prices (and some very bad prices) on pc. Just look around and you will find what you want. Feel free to experiment, but I do not expect good results with items not designed for PC. Even if it works on general PC, it may not work so well on a piece of lead hurling downrange.

Yeah I know harbor freight sells those colors. I was just curious if paint dye or any type of dye would take away from the properties of the actual paint. I guess I have a few experiments to do then.

Just in terms of cost effectiveness. I did a quick eBay search and seen 1lb of powder cost for $8, green in color (I think that's why you want?). Probably will have to add a few dollars for shipping so say $10.

Now harbor freight is $5 or so, add some tax, add some paint, etc. your only a dollar or two shorter than what you would pay for the product itself.

As for glitter, I don't think I'd risk shooting anything like that down my barrel.

http://www.prismaticpowders.com/powder-coating-colors/

Has a discount section with many colors going for less than $5/pound.

hey thanks Lavenatti.

This is kind of exactly what I was looking for. This sorta takes all work out of it for me.

lavenatti, do you know if they constantly change the discounted colors or if these are the only colors they discount.

Here's a random question. I have yet to stumble across a direct answer. Does PC mean you don't have to lube your boolits?

I believe they discount whatever they have small amounts of or can't sell. I've seen the selection change quite a bit in a month.

Yes, the PC replaces lube.

A poster on the other thread reported launching a 440 from a 500 S&W at 1500 or so without a gas check or lube. No leading
