Any of you have the manual from the '80's that shows the loading for this .32 caliber rifle with round ball and maxi ball
thanks
shdwlkr

If you even have one of the older catalogs this information should be there also.
Divorce took my info and now I am trying to rebuild my information base.

I have the booklet which came with my Seneca. Here is the data:

32 cal RB (.315", 47gn)

30 gns FFFg 1714 fps 307 FT Lbs
40 gns FFFg 1929 fps 388 FT Lbs
50 gns FFFg 2055 fps 441 FT Lbs ( Max! in red writing)

32 cal Maxi-ball 103gn)

30 gns FFFg 1418 fps 460 FT Lbs
40 gns FFFg 1628 fps 606 FT Lbs
50 gns FFFg 1749 fps 700 FT Lbs ( Max! in red writing)

Hope this helps. My Seneca is a 36 cal and I never could get those maxi's to shoot. Now the patched ball is something else!

Of course there is a empty Cherokee (bid at $149.99 currently!) on Gunbroker and a wooden ramrod for the .45 Cherokee for $41.00 on Gunbroker....

Thanks to all who answered my post and the information is a great help.

Now I will have to do some casting and see what I can get my cherokee to do with the maxi-balls as the last time I shot it years ago it did just fine.
Will get back to you on this one

I'm sure the good folk at TC know their stuff but and I see they recommend/list GOEX and Pyrodex. 50gr of 3FFFg still seems like a lot of powder to feed a .32cal and 60gr equally in a .36cal. That's GOEX; sure wouldn't feed that much Swiss to either!

If you consider how quickly a round ball or Maxi shed velocity and the ranges over which they are likely used, lesser charges will do the same job for less noise, fouling, smoke, cost.

For example in hunting with either on small game 50-60 yards will be about maximum most will want to shoot. Velocity of 1600fps will shoot dead flat over those ranges and a ball will arrive at 60 yards carrying only slightly less punch when started at 1600fps as when started at 2000fps.

Just my 2 cents worth and of course I am a scrouge. I guess it's whatever floats your boat.

Greetings from across the Tasman Jeff.

I wish I could use less powder in my Seneca 36 cal but found 40 gns of FFFg was the best accuracy load with patched RB. It shoots so darn good I cannot change it.

A few years ago, I got one of the Traditions Crockett 32 caliber half-stock rifles for varmints and small game shooting. 30 grains of #f was its recommended load, and it was a winner from Day 1 with PRB.

I had no idea the RB's were going that fast (1700 FPS) at the muzzle. Is there a guideline or formula for figuring PRB velocity in rifles of varying calibers? PRB is about all I shoot any more.

I have an older CVA .32 cal "Varmint" (single trigger)
I also own, and shoot, seven other different caliber Muzzleloaders. From the lowly little .32 up to a hard thumpin' .66 cal.
And, I have to admit that of all my muzzleloaders, the little .32 is fast becoming a strong favorite for a walk around, fun gun.

When I first got the gun, my original thoughts on the .32 was it was more or less a .22 caliber long rifle in black powder form......Man! Did I ever get a wake up call there!

Truth of the matter is that....with the right loadings... this little guy is a Wolf in Sheeps clothing!

I "think" the max load for this particular little "el cheapo" was listed at either 40gr or 35 grain FFFg.... I have used 35 gr Goex FFFg with the little 112gr Maxi Ball many, many times....Up to 50 yards, I was never astute enough to tell much difference in that load, and that of a 30-30 with 110gr loadings...

My favorite load in the .32 is 20gr FFFg, with a PRB, and LeHigh Lube. The major problem with the .32, at least to me, is wind drift. When loaded "to light", that little round ball is as bad as a BB at 50 yds.

Respectfully, Russ...

This is why I went with a 40 caliber. Its small enough to keep up with the little 30's, but big enough to smack down something even as big as a deer.

I've got both the CVA squirrel & the Dixie Tn. PoorBoy. Singing dixie with 10 gr. 3f is close to .22 lr velocity, with 700 shot/lb. of powder. Kills squirrels dead!

Hi Jeff... I'm looking for one in flint in fact myself... I've only just got into flints with a couple of 54's... well 3 actually now... but I'm still not used to all of the nuances... but I'm getting better...

The 40's though are so so sweet... :)

Well guys I am remarried and we have 4 handicap kids ages 17-8, a little 17 month old son and we are waiting on a 6 month old little girl.
My current wife has her passions and I have mine and she lets me spend my mad money on my firearms. After loosing all of mine in the divorce she has let me get many times what I lost.
Life is a challenge and we just have to know how to deal with things as they come along. I am also trying to get into med school so I can make some money. Ha Ha by the time I pay off my student loans I should be around 90 years old.
