Ive been doing some reading on this, and Im still not sure if it will work. Has anyone loaded mid range 357 loads using this bullet? Ive read that it can make the round to long to fit into some 357 firearms. I know I should just pop one together, and mesure it up, but I dont have my gear fully together yet, and want to get all my ducks in a row for when I get started. BTW Im using a S&W model 19-3. I would realy like to load up a few mid range loads for it, and have some 358311 bullets allready, and also have the mold for it. Just wondering if its useable, or should I get a diferent bullet, or mold. Thanks for any help.

I use that bullet in my model 19, works fine. In my gun, 5.4/unique gives about 950fps. ACWW with Felix lube. Also use 11.7/2400 and get 1190fps.

Lyman recommends you seat and crimp that particular boolit over the front driving band. The length is supposed to be 1.590" IIRC. I imagine Lyman recommends this to cover ALL the different length cylinders in the world. BUT if you can load them and crimp in the crimp groove then by all means do it.
I have the same mold and use the 358311 in competition but load them as 38spl. The 358311 is a great boolit.

Lyman 358311 crimped in the crimp grove works great in my Security Six. I use it with 5.0 grains of Red Dot or Promo for a very accurate mid-range laod.

Never had any problem in S&W models 27 or 28, using regular crimping groove. Use a mild roll crimp, just enough to get the job done as crimping works the mouth of the cases and is known to shorten their life. The 311 has been around for a long time and has always done a good job. LLS

Great guy thanks! I have some nice hardcast GC bullets for the Mag loads, but was hoping I could use the 311's for the more mid range mag loads.

I also have a lot of 358495 WC bullets, and Ive read some use them in Mag loads..... but they are going in my 38 range loads.

311 is a great design. It's even very accurate when pushed out to long ranges. Although not the best boolit for hunt, unless you had some really soft alloy. But I keep some of these on the shelf, for those days I feel I need a traditional design.
