Well, I think I have finally found the magic elixir for casting my bullets that has given me the desired performance from my .38-44 loads. These are 147 grain #358156 HP's cast from wheelweights and tin with a 16 to 1 ratio. BHN is about 13-14 and the velocity is about 1,260 fps from my Outdoorsman. They all penetrated a good 12 inches of wet newsprint, and of these four here, three weighed 145 grains and one 143 grains. I may have found my desired concoction.

Used the same recipe for quite awhile, if it aint broke don't fix it.

Interesting. Any chance of doing a test with solid castings for comparison? I'm interested in how alloys behave at different velocities.

I don't like any or very little antimony on my LHP. so I just go 25-1 or 20-1 for vel up to 1250fps or so. This 348gr LHP from my 45-70 was doing 1500fps on impact w/ wetpack, it left a very impressive hole in the stack.
