Makes perverse sense. Better to have someone shoplift live ammo than to do an armed robbery for it. The real reason probably is that airsoft bb's are more likely to be shoplifted than real ammo.

I know that the airsoft stuff is more likely to get lifted.... the thing is there is room in the cabinet for both..........................

I have been to small stores before where when you opened the box of ammo 1/2 of it was gone if it wasn't in a secure area........

I'm waiting for the armed robbery where they only took ammo.

All the ammo here in the chain stores has anti-theft bars in the box.

Local scheels has all the air rifles in a locked case. All the rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders are out and not contained at all. at any given moment there must be 5 being pointed at the ceiling across the store.

A store locking whatever item/items up has nothing to do with safety. It has to do with preventing shoplifting. Apparently owners of firearms are responsible people who seldom steal.
