[QUOTE]Hello all, I am trying to find out whether or not is is as important to match your bore while shooting a gas checked bullet as it is while shooting a plain based bullet. I have a moldthat drops bullets at about .2778 I have not slugged the bore yet but I imagine that I would want about .001 or .002 over the bore size. Any thoughts would be appreciated. BillQUOTE]

I have never had good luck with .001 over.

I start with .002 or .003 depending on what sizing die I have on hand.

And yes the same rules apply to gas checked bullets.

Since you did not mention the cartridge, I can't suggest a sizing diameter.

Will, the cartridge is a 6.8 spc. I am only asking to determine whether or not it is worth messing with this mold. I may just have to try and find one of the .280 molds. I have a .278 sizing die on the way from midway but that wont do me much good if my mold is dropping boolits at .2778 ish(most are just shy of .278). I really like the bullet, it's a 27-130-fn from rcbs. The mold is really nice, it's easy to cast good bullets with and it would be a shame if it won't work out.

+1 on william - .001 is usually not enough.

I don't freak out about overly huge boolits.
I don't even want them overly big.
358 in my 358 win.
2245 in my 223 rem.
324 in my 8 mauser.
barely almost 285 in my 7 mauser.

I wouldn't even hesitate to use 2778 in a 277 barrel.

I was just out in the shop playing and found out that the bullets grew to .278 and some change. I have read that this could happen but didn't expect it to. I also used some not water quenched boolits to slug my barrel with since its a relatively soft alloy and wouldn't you know it my bore is exactly .277, I am starting to think I might be ok. Only one way to find out. Thanks all for you words of wisdom
