While not not new to reloading, I am new to the .45 ACP having bought a Ruger SR 1911 this year. I have not started reloading for it yet.
I bought some Blazer brass ammo just to be able to shoot it. Looking at the primer, it looked kind of small. I compared the Blazer case with
some range pick up and the primers looked to be different sizes. I checked one of my manuals (which is an older one) and it only indicated
one size. Is there now, two different sizes of primers used in the .45 ACP.

Thanks,

Bigscot

Bigscot, most new 45acp brass is using small pistol primers. The older stuff is large pistol primer. Make sure you separate them so you do not have a problem when reloading.

Yes some Use small primers aswell I ran into some federal today with small primers. Just a pain in the ### when they get mixed in. Safe to reload just keep separated.

Nothing wrong with small primers...unless you're wearing progressive lenses. You must sort them before loading and it's a job best done by better eyes than mine. I keep a large and small spent primer on the table for comparison when I'm sorting 45acp brass.

Thanks for the help. I am trying to get some Dillon dies. They are hard to find like anything else.

Blazer, Federal, Speer and then the Federal NT and Winchester NT are all small primer now. I don't mind one bit, as the .45 really doesn't need a large primer and my 1050 has the small primer setup so I just scrounge for small primer ACP brass to load.

I personaly hate small primers in 45. I use a progressive press to load and if I miss one everything comes to a halt. I know to check but once in awile I miss one.

Considering the availability of primers right now having a little of both sizes (brass) isn't a bad idea.........................
